Position Overview

BayCare Health System, one of the nation's best-performing not-for-profit health care systems serving the communities of West Central Florida, is seeking a visionary and collaborative physician leader to serve as Medical Director of the BayCare Cancer Institute. ย This is a unique and career-defining opportunity to play a role in shaping the future of cancer care across a broad regional network, aligning multidisciplinary teams, and enhancing patient outcomes through strategic leadership and clinical excellence.ย  This position combines both clinical practice and administrative leadership-ideal for an experienced leader who thrives in both environments and is passionate about building programs.

Key components of the role include:

Overview: The Medical Director will collaborate closely with leaders from BayCare's Clinical Institutes to focus on building and expanding a comprehensive, system-wide strategy for delivering cutting-edge cancer treatment across BayCare Health System, positioning the BayCare Cancer Institute as a hub of excellence.ย 

Clinical Practice: The clinical component of this position is integrated with BayCare Medical Group, the largest and most respected physician-led medical group in the Tampa Bay area.ย  We are seeking a highly skilled, board-certified Medical Oncologist or Surgical Oncologist to join our team.

Program Development & Market Competitiveness: Lead initiatives to grow and enhance cancer services, ensuring the institute remains at the forefront of innovation, patient outcomes, and market presence.

Academic and Teaching Opportunities: Serve as a mentor and educator by teaching residents through an academic affiliation with Northwestern Medicine. ย A faculty appointment is available for those interested in engaging with medical education.

Research: Drive oncology research initiatives by partnering with Northwestern Medicine and BayCare's established research infrastructure. The Medical Director will collaborate with oncologists and research leaders facilitating access to innovative trials and advancing cancer treatment.

Qualifications

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Clinical Experience - minimum 10 years
  • Executive Leadership Experience in a healthcare setting - minimum 2 years
  • Masters - Healthcare Administration or Business Administration is preferred
  • Board Certification by The American Board of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology or Board Certification by The American Board of Surgery
  • Ability to obtain a Florida Medical License
