Job Summary:
Testing
  • Possesses extensive knowledge in test assembly and integration, data acquisition systems, statistical modeling, multivariate analysis, time series analysis, measurement techniques, and test strategies.
  • Can lead activities, design complex setups, develop custom fixtures, optimize testing processes, troubleshoot instrumentation, and analyze measurement uncertainties.
  • Are a recognized authority in the field, capable of handling large-scale, high-risk test programs.

Communications
  • Possesses exceptional skills in communication theories, presentation design, technical presentation, and writing specialized technical documents.
  • Can provide expert guidance on complex communication challenges, develop compelling narratives, tailor content for specific audiences, and provide expert consultation on presentation strategies and audience engagement methods.
  • Excels in writing technical documents with precision and accuracy.

Design
  • The individual should have a basic understanding of electromechanical actuators, igniters, pressure vessel, solid rocket motor systems, hot gas valves, and thrusters.

Drafting/Modelling
  • Possesses expertise in creating intricate 2D or 3D designs, optimizing productivity through CAD commands and tools, producing precise technical drawings, and interpreting complex GD&T symbols.
  • Can create 3D models and generate complex assemblies and technical drawings with precision.

Systems Engineering
  • Understands the tie-in between testing and verification and validation of requirements.
  • Can develop program plans, understand acquisition life cycles, and coordinate activities.
  • Has a foundational understanding of reliability and safety principles, advanced skills in requirements analysis, and comprehensive knowledge in risk management, leading activities, and developing tailored strategies.

Project Management
  • Possesses basic financial knowledge, can lead small teams, understand operations research principles, understands complex procurement tasks, create simple proposals, and manage simple schedules.
  • Can effectively communicate goals and expectations, develop procurement strategies, manage vendor evaluations, analyze supplier performance, and implement effective contract management practices.

Ballistics
  • Understands propellant chemistry, combustion principles, grain geometry, internal ballistics, and solid propellant manufacturing processes, including types, composition, combustion mechanisms, and grain performance factors.

System Performance
  • Designs simple control systems using standard techniques, understand diagrams and specifications, and implement basic algorithms.
  • Conducts requirements elicitation, prioritize stakeholder needs, and document requirements using standard templates.
  • Understands solid rocket motor performance principles, including thrust, specific impulse, and propellant combustion.

Analysis
  • Understands CFD principles, navigates software interfaces, and performs simulations.
  • Can set up and run structural analysis models, interpret results, and apply engineering judgment.
  • Can perform dynamic analysis tasks, set up thermal analysis models, and identify manufacturing and assembly issues related to geometric tolerances.

Avionics
  • Understands basic battery design principles, cable/wire harness design, circuit board design, rocket motor ignition systems, and software design principles, contributing to tasks under guidance.
  • Identifies common components and connections and contributes to the generation of basic software designs while following standard specifications and guidelines.

Requirements:
  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science required in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines from an accredited university. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must be able to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).

Preferences:
  • Rocket motor design and testing experience
  • Current DoD Top Secret SCI Security Clearance
  • Master of Science required in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines from an accredited university. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

The salary range represents the base salary range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors. Those include but are not limited to location, experience, and performance.
