Battery Design Engineer

Job Summary:

Our client in Ann Arbor, MI is looking for a Battery Design Engineer. This is a direct hire/contract position.

What You Will Do:

Our Client's Powertrain Design & Evaluation (PDE) is looking for a passionate, highly motivated powertrain engineer to work on high voltage battery development. The primary responsibility of this role is to work on HV batteries for Our Client's on-going efforts for Mobility solutions and our automotive products. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, the person in this role will support PDE's objective to provide highly competitively designed battery packs to our customers to achieve our Carbon Neutrality goals.

What you'll be doing:

  • Development & Localization of high voltage (HV) battery pack or components for next gen electrified Vehicles (xEVs: Hybrid Electric, Plug-in Hybrid, Battery Electric, and Fuel Cell) or non-automotive mobility projects.
  • Build a set of requirements for a High Voltage (HV) battery pack or components. You will be working with various cross functional departments in both Our Client's Motor North America and Our Client's Motor Corporation.
  • Develop a HV battery pack or components with a 3rd party supplier ensuring that the supplier meets Our Client's requirements while staying on project schedule.
  • Battery pack or component packaging, fastening, performance, strength and durability studies through close collaboration with other groups in USA and Japan.
  • Build a validation plan with a supplier and ensure that the tests are done according to Our Client's expectations and the results meet Our Client's requirements.
  • Visit supplier's manufacturing site to ensure that the process meets design intent and Our Client's expectations for high quality.
  • Identify and implement innovative methods and technologies for Our Client's future battery packs through competitor benchmarking.

Basics:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience of developing parts with suppliers, affiliates, or Our Client's Motor Corporation (TMC; Japan) - 2 years.
  • Effective project management and time management skills- 2 years.
  • Beginner or higher CAD skills (CATIA V5).

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (10%).
  • Full project cycle developing a product from concept phase to production- 1 project (20%).
  • 2 years of experience in Our Client's Powertrain Division (40%).
  • Completion of OCBP (Our Client's Business Practice) (30%).
