How much do batch scheduling jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 24, 2026, the average yearly pay for batch scheduling in the United States is $64,989.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $40,000.00 and $74,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What type of scheduler makes the most money?

In the field of batch scheduling, senior or specialized schedulers who manage complex, large-scale systems or work in high-demand industries tend to earn higher salaries. Expertise in automation tools, scripting, and experience with enterprise-level systems can also increase earning potential. Generally, roles requiring advanced skills and certifications command higher pay.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Batch Scheduler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Batch Scheduler, you need a solid understanding of job scheduling concepts, batch processing workflows, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with scheduling tools such as IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, BMC Control-M, or CA Workload Automation, as well as basic scripting skills, is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help Batch Schedulers coordinate with IT teams and minimize operational disruptions. These competencies ensure accurate, timely batch processing and reliable system performance for business operations.

What are some common challenges faced in a Batch Scheduling role, and how can they be effectively managed?

Professionals in Batch Scheduling often encounter challenges such as managing complex dependencies between jobs, ensuring timely completion under tight deadlines, and quickly resolving job failures or delays. Effective management involves thorough documentation, using robust scheduling tools (like Control-M or Autosys), and proactive monitoring to catch issues early. Strong communication with IT teams and business stakeholders is also essential to prioritize tasks and minimize business impact. Staying updated on automation best practices can further streamline the process and reduce manual intervention.

What is the difference between Batch Scheduling vs Job Scheduler?

AspectBatch SchedulingJob Scheduler
CredentialsTypically requires knowledge of scheduling tools and basic scriptingRequires similar skills, often with additional scripting or automation knowledge
Work EnvironmentData centers, IT departments, enterprise systemsIT operations, data processing, enterprise environments
UsageOrganizing and automating batch data processing jobsManaging and executing scheduled jobs across systems

Batch Scheduling and Job Scheduler roles are closely related, both focusing on automating tasks within IT and data environments. Batch Scheduling emphasizes organizing large data processing jobs, while Job Scheduler is a broader term covering the management of scheduled tasks across various systems. Both require similar skills and are used in similar settings, often overlapping in responsibilities.

What are examples of batch jobs?

Batch scheduling involves automating the execution of batch jobs, which are non-interactive tasks processed without user intervention. Examples include data backups, report generation, data processing, and system updates, often scheduled during off-peak hours using tools like cron or job schedulers. These jobs typically handle large volumes of data and run sequentially or in groups to optimize system resources.

What is batch job scheduling?

Batch job scheduling is the process of organizing and automating the execution of multiple jobs or tasks in a specific order at scheduled times, often using scheduling tools like cron or job schedulers. It is commonly used in IT and data processing environments to improve efficiency and ensure tasks run without manual intervention.

What is the 3 month rule for jobs?

In batch scheduling and related jobs, the 3 month rule often refers to a policy where employees are not eligible for certain benefits, promotions, or rehire considerations if they have been employed for less than three months. It can also relate to project timelines or review periods, depending on the company's scheduling policies. Understanding specific organizational policies is important for accurate application.

What is batch scheduling?

Batch scheduling is the process of automating the execution of jobs or tasks on a computer system at specified times or under certain conditions. It is commonly used in IT environments to run repetitive, resource-intensive processes such as data backups, report generation, or data processing outside of peak business hours. Batch scheduling tools help manage dependencies between jobs, monitor execution, and handle errors to ensure that workflows complete efficiently and reliably.

Job description

ASRC Federal Agile Management LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Oracle Database / ETL Developer with deep expertise in SQL, PL/SQL, batch scheduling, and custom ETL development. The ideal candidate has spent a decade building data-intensive applications and hand-rolled ETL pipelines in PL/SQL and automating batch workloads using both OS-level cron and Oracle's internal scheduler.

Work Location: Hybrid / 2 days per week onsite in Arlington, VA

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complex PL/SQL packages and SQL for business, integration, and reporting needs
  • Design, build, and optimize hand-rolled PL/SQL ETL pipelines
  • Automate and orchestrate batch jobs across OS cron and Oracle's internal scheduler
  • Monitor pipeline and job health for accuracy, performance, and reliability
  • Troubleshoot data and performance issues across the database and batch layers
  • Document processes and participate in code reviews and production support
  • Shell scripting (Bash/Korn) for cron orchestration, file handling, and job wrappers
  • Experience with version control VSS, and ticketing tools (Jira)

Required Skills & Experience

Oracle Database

  • 10+ years hands-on experience with Oracle (11g/12c/19c)
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, data modeling, normalization, and schema design
  • Performance tuning using execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and statistics

SQL

  • Advanced query development: complex joins, analytic/window functions, subqueries, set operations, and hierarchical queries
  • Writing and optimizing DDL/DML for large datasets
  • Query troubleshooting and optimization

PL/SQL

  • Expert-level development of stored procedures, functions, packages, and triggers
  • Cursors, ref cursors, collections, bulk operations (BULK COLLECT, FORALL), and dynamic SQL
  • Robust exception handling, autonomous transactions, and modular, reusable code design

Custom PL/SQL ETL (Hand-Rolled)

  • Designing and building ETL pipelines entirely in PL/SQL — no reliance on commercial ETL tools
  • Extraction, transformation, and loading logic implemented through packages and procedures
  • Ingesting data via external tables, SQL*Loader, and UTL_FILE for flat-file processing
  • Handling incremental and full loads, staging strategies, error handling, logging, and reconciliation
  • Ensuring data quality and integrity through validation logic and audit trails
  • Optimizing high-volume transformations using set-based SQL and bulk processing

Batch Scheduling (OS Cron + Oracle Scheduler)

  • Scheduling and maintaining batch jobs using OS-level cron (Unix/Linux)
  • Building and managing jobs with Oracle's internal scheduler (DBMS_SCHEDULER / DBMS_JOB), including programs, schedules, chains, and job dependencies
  • Coordinating workloads that span both the OS and database scheduling layers
  • Monitoring execution, building logging/alerting, and handling failures, retries, and restartability

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of Oracle database development with significant hand-rolled ETL and batch automation experience
