The Role Responsibilities and Requirements
The Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Girls Basketball Coach in developing and supporting all aspects of the high school girls basketball program. The assistant coach will help foster student-athlete growth, promote sportsmanship, build a competitive program, and support the school's mission and athletic philosophy.
Program Support & Development
  • Assist the Head Coach in implementing the vision and philosophy of the girls basketball program (grades 9 12)
  • Support the development of a positive, competitive, and team-first culture
  • Work collaboratively with the coaching staff to ensure consistency throughout the program
  • Assist with offseason development opportunities and program initiatives

Coaching & Instruction
  • Assist in planning and conducting effective, developmentally appropriate practices
  • Teach basketball fundamentals, team concepts, individual skill development, and game strategy
  • Provide instruction and feedback during practices and competitions
  • Assist with game preparation, scouting, and in-game coaching responsibilities
  • Promote academic success, character development, and accountability among student-athletes

Student-Athlete Development
  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes
  • Encourage confidence, leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship
  • Support academic eligibility expectations and personal growth
  • Help ensure the safety and well-being of all participants

Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with the Head Coach and coaching staff to support program goals
  • Maintain positive and consistent communication with student-athletes, families, administration, and staff
  • Represent the girls basketball program with professionalism within the school and community

Program Operations
  • Assist with organizing practices, competitions, team travel, and special events
  • Help manage equipment, uniforms, and inventory
  • Adhere to all school, conference, and WIAA rules and regulations
  • Assist with fundraising, youth programs, and other program needs as assigned

Community Engagement
  • Support youth basketball development and feeder programs
  • Encourage positive relationships throughout the basketball community
  • Promote multi-sport participation and collaboration with other athletic programs

Qualifications
  • Previous basketball coaching experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, skill development, and game strategy
  • Ability to positively mentor and motivate high school student-athletes
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching staff
  • Must meet all district and Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) coaching requirements
