Job description

Position Summary:ย The Assistant Coach, Basketball supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the basketball program, including athlete development, team operations, practice planning, game preparation, administrative responsibilities, and fostering a positive, competitive, and growth-oriented environment. This role helps ensure the basketball program aligns with organizational standards, student-athlete well-being, academic success, and competitive excellence both on and off the court.ย ย 

Keyย Responsibilities:ย 

  • Assistย with planning, organizing, and conducting high-quality basketball practices, skill development sessions, team workouts, and individual development plansย 
  • Support the development of student-athletesโ€™ technical basketball skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and mental performanceย 
  • Teach and reinforce offensive and defensive systems, game strategies, basketball fundamentals, and situational decision-makingย 
  • Assistย with game preparation, scouting reports, film review, opponent analysis, and post-game evaluationsย 
  • Maintain open, two-way communication with student-athletes and parents/guardiansย regardingย progress, goals, development plans, and the studentโ€™s overall growth in athletics, academics, and campus lifeย 
  • Guide student-athletes through tournament and competition preparation, including scheduling, travel coordination, pre-game readiness, post-game review, and performance benchmarksย 
  • Monitor and support student-athlete academic progress, accountability, discipline, and overall well-beingย 
  • Develop andย maintainย a comprehensive understanding of basketball instructional equipment, performance technology, analytics tools, and coaching methodologies used within the Academyโ€™s basketball programsย 
  • Serve as a mentor and educator, fostering leadership, teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, and life skills in each student-athleteย 
  • Continuously evaluate the athletic, academic, and emotional development of student-athletes and collaborate with leadership to ensureย appropriate internalย and external resources are engagedย 
  • Assistย in the college placement and recruitment process for student-athletes as neededย 
  • Collaborate with leadership to regularly review and enhance program structure, curriculum, training delivery,ย objectives, and resources, providing recommendations to improve quality and support program growthย 
  • Support recruiting and retention initiatives for current and prospective student-athletesย 
  • Travel with teams to practices, tournaments,ย showcases, and competitions as neededย 
  • Assistย in basketball camp, clinic, and event delivery throughout the yearย 
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational, conference, and governing body rules, policies, and proceduresย 
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and codes of conductย 
  • Other duties as assignedย 

Qualifications:ย 

  • High standard ofย proficiencyย in basketball coaching techniques, skill instruction, and player developmentย 
  • Experience playing, coaching, or managing basketball at the collegiate, club, academy, or professional levelย 
  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems, game strategy, and athlete development principlesย 
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in physical education, sports management, business administration, or a related sports or business field, or equivalent experienceย 
  • Strong commitment to student-athlete development and success both on and off the court
  • Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, and staffย 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skillsย 

Preferred Skills:

  • Bilingualย 
  • CPR Certificationย 
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with the ability to drive for tournaments, games, and team travelย 
  • Experience working basketball camps and clinics
  • Experience with video analysis and basketball performance technologyย 
  • Collegiate recruiting or player placement experienceย 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift, move,ย pushย and pull equipment or boxesย in excess ofย 40lbs.ย ย 
  • Should be able to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonableย period of time.ย 
  • Must be able to move around campus which includes gym, turf, fields, etc.ย 
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays isย requiredย ย
