Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department.

Work is performed under direct supervision. This internship is with the Parks and Recreation Department located at Kelly Recreation Complex, 404 Imperial Blvd. in Lakeland, FL.

Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours per week. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist in daily operations within Kelly Recreation Complex Assist with the execution of recreational sports leagues-including softball, flag football and kickball Setting up and tearing down recreation activities Reports hazardous conditions and accidents and administers first aid when needed. Instructs individuals and groups in recreational activities; maintains discipline in recreational areas.

Participates in staff meetings; assists in planning special events; provides information about programs to parents and other citizens. Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform related work as required QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE) Enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree seeking program in an accredited college or university. Required: A Resume is required for consideration for this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Basic understanding of sports (softball/baseball, flag football, kickball, basketball) Ability to perform basic data entry Basic Computer Skills Must be willing to spend time outside Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co- workers, other City employees and the general public Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed Valid driver's license is required WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS: Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (e.g. written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination).
