JOB TITLE: Basketball/Wrestling Ministry Director

REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Sports Ministry

STATUS:Full-Time, Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
The Basketball/Wrestling Ministry Director is responsible for planning and implementing both the recreation and competitive basketball programs along with the wrestling program for Emerald Youth Foundation. The Director serves as the face and voice of these programs organizing and upholding quality of the offerings and is the liaison for the urban FCA ministry in these sports to help enable a strategy for day-to-day basketball and wrestling programming that helps young people become *comprehensively engaged, achieve critical youth development outcomes, and achieve life-long spiritual and physically active lifestyles.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Communicate, model, and uphold the mission and values of Emerald Youth Foundation and its Sports Philosophy.
  • Organize and implement all leagues, camps, clinics, tournaments, tryouts, training, and special events for rec and competitive basketball and wrestling.
  • Recruit players from target neighborhoods and coaches who are mission-aligned.
  • Ensure referees, clock operators, scorekeepers, and other personnel needed for games/matches/activities are secured.
  • Collect player fees and submit program expenses timely for payment.
  • Track and report player and volunteer data and analyze reports to create improvement plans.
  • Travel with teams and coaches to tournaments.
  • Instill and encourage spiritual disciplines for all players and volunteers using FCA curriculum and help the team to grow and become better through high standards, discipleship, and modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ.
  • Communicate with parents and encourage their participation as volunteers. Develop relationships that lead to strong family engagement with Emerald Youth Foundation.
  • Assist in helping connect players to other ministry programs offered by Emerald Youth or partnering organizations.
  • Help identify and overcome barriers that could keep young people from engaging in Emerald Youth programs and coming back year after year.
  • Ensure the programs maintain sound fiscal management by ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures and developing and maintaining related budgets.
  • Coordinate with communications team to confirm recruitment and branding is cohesive and compliant with organizational standards.
  • Implement and ensure safety rules, regulations and procedures are followed by players and volunteers.
  • Participate in organizational events and meetings, including working outside normal schedule as needed.
  • Maintain a current CDL and drive large vehicles/buses as needed.
  • Manage any relevant partnerships as assigned by Associate Director of Sports Ministry.
  • Manage additional projects and tasks as assigned and participate with any assigned groups or committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Dedicated Christian with clear knowledge of the Gospel and a passion for the mission of Emerald Youth Foundation; connected to a church community; possesses a strong reputation for honesty, integrity, and high moral standards.
  • Sports Management or related bachelors degree preferred.
  • Experience as collegiate athlete preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in a similar role preferred especially in a program serving urban youth.
  • Technical/Personal basketball experience is a must. Wrestling experience desired.
  • Experience working in business or non-profit management strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing people.
  • Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and communication tool.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and business acumen.
  • Ability to achieve results under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good driving record. Ability and willingness to obtain CDL with P endorsement and drive large vehicles/buses.
  • Willingness to work extended hours.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a collaborative setting.
