Job description

Department: Emergency Med - Wyandotte

Location: Henry Ford Hospital - 2333 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI 48192

Schedule: Full-Time (36 Hours/Week), every other weekend and holiday rotation

Shift: Midnights (3x12 Hour Shifts)

As an Emergency Room Technical Assistant, you'll work side-by-side with nurses and providers to deliver timely, compassionate care during critical moments. Under direct supervision, you'll assist with procedures, perform vital tasks, and help ensure smooth operations in one of the hospital's most dynamic environments.

This is an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while providing essential support to patients in urgent need.

About Our Unit:

Our Emergency Department cares for over 45,000 patients each year in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. With 42 treatment rooms-including 5 Mental Health Secured Unit rooms and 3 Trauma Bays-you'll gain experience with a wide variety of patient needs. We are a Primary Stroke Center, offer a 24-hour Cardiac Cath Lab with EMS direct-to-Cath capabilities, and are a designated Level III Trauma Center. Joining our team means working in a dynamic, rewarding environment where you can develop your skills and make a real difference in patient care every day.

What You'll Do:
Your day-to-day impact includes:

  • Assist with patient assessments, exams, and treatments
  • Perform clinical tasks such as:

oย ย  Drawing blood & collecting specimens

oย ย  Performing EKGs

oย ย  Applying splints or immobilizers

oย ย  Taking vital signs (adult and pediatric)

oย ย  Inserting NG tubes, urethral catheters

oย ย  Starting and discontinuing IVs (as applicable)

  • Prepare and assist with procedures including suturing, casting, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, and more
  • Recognize abnormal vitals or dysrhythmias and alert the RN/Provider immediately
  • Provide patient and family support with professionalism and empathy
  • Maintain equipment and supplies; clean and prepare rooms between patients
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and hospital standards

Education/Experience Required:

ย ย ย ย ย ย  High School Diploma or GED required

ย ย ย ย ย ย  BCLS Certification required

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Previous experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting is a strong plus

ย ย ย ย ย ย  One of the following is required at time of hire

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Basic EMT certification

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant, nursing, or MD program

ย ย ย ย ย ย  One year of Emergency Room Technical experience

ย ย ย ย ย ย  EMT license preferred

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ability to successfully complete a 180-day orientation program

Certifications/Licensures Required:

Must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Basic EMT (B-EMT) certification
  • Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant program
  • Completion of a formal nursing education program
  • Completion of a formal medical doctor education program

OR

  • One (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience (Must complete one of the above certifications/programs within 12 months of hire)

Additional Requirements:

  • EMT license preferred
  • Successful completion of a 180-day orientation period is required
