About Us

21st Century Charter School at Gary is part of the GEO Academies network, a system of high-performing public charter schools focused on accelerating student achievement and expanding college and career opportunities. Serving grades K-12, our model integrates early college access, career pathways, and real-world learning experiences.

As part of our expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming, we are launching an Education Professions pathway designed to develop the next generation of educators through hands-on experience, dual credit opportunities, and work-based learning.


Position Overview

The Education Professions Instructor will lead a multi-level CTE pathway that introduces students to careers in education while building foundational teaching, leadership, and literacy skills. This role includes both classroom instruction and coordination of field-based experiences, such as internships, tutoring placements, and classroom observations.


Reports To: Principal / CTE Director
Position Type: 10-month

Primary Responsibilities

? Deliver instruction for Education Professions pathway courses (e.g., Principles of Teaching, Education Professions I/II, capstone experiences) aligned to Indiana CTE standards

? Design engaging, student-centered lessons focused on instructional strategies, child development, classroom management, and equity in education

? Integrate early literacy strategies and the science of reading into coursework

? Facilitate and oversee work-based learning (WBL) experiences, including tutoring, internships, and school-based placements

? Build partnerships with elementary and middle school teachers to support student placements

? Support students in earning dual credit and/or education-related credentials where applicable

? Monitor student progress toward pathway completion, graduation readiness, and postsecondary goals

? Maintain accurate documentation for WBL hours, pathway participation, and program outcomes

? Collaborate with school leadership to align the program with Indiana Graduation Pathways and A-F accountability indicators

? Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide initiatives

Requirements

Qualifications

Required:

? Master's degree in Education

? Valid Indiana teaching license 

? Additional training and/or certification in literacy instruction (e.g., Science of Reading, structured literacy, or equivalent)

? Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience

? Strong understanding of instructional best practices, classroom management, and student engagement

? Ability to build relationships with students, families, and community partners

Preferred:

? Indiana Administrator License (Principal or District-level)

? Experience working in an urban or high-needs school environment
