This job will be working at Randolph Air Force Base and will need to pass additional security clearance.

This position will operate a roller (steel wheel and/or pneumatic) to compact asphalt and achieve proper grade and a smooth finished surface while working safely and efficiently with the paving crew. Perform daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and jobsite housekeeping to ensure safe operations and quality results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operates roller to compress asphalt to achieve the specified grading and smooth surface.
  • Reads grade stakes and works with grade checker, laser, or GPS to maintain grade.
  • Determines speed and direction of roller based on knowledge of compressible material to achieve a smooth grade and/or surface.
  • Works closely with other crew members using hand signals to coordinate work and ensure safety.
  • Performs daily inspection and maintenance and ensures that roller is in safe, proper working order including fluid checks and proper lubrication.
  • Reports to shop when roller needs maintenance and repair.
  • Keeping equipment clean and preparing equipment for transport on flatbed when needed.
  • Maintain orderliness, cleanliness and safety at jobsite.
  • Follow Supervisor’s instructions closely.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understand basics of roller mechanicals.
  • Knowledge of how to run a nuclear gauge and a PQI non-nuclear gauge.
  • Understand and adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
  • An unwavering focus on safety.
  • OSHA

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly work extended | overtime hours, outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions at all project locations.
  • Travel may be required.
