Position Description
The Senior Chiller and HVAC Technician plays an integral part in the QuesTec Mechanical service area. This employee is responsible for the troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, maintenance and installation of chiller and HVAC related equipment as assigned per manager and according to contractual commitments between QuesTec and client. Daily coordination of activities, routes and projects are expected to be accomplished both efficiently and effectively. The Senior Chiller and HVAC Technician is a primary contact with the client and is expected to always represent QuesTec with utmost professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC chiller systems such as Air- and Water-Cooled Chillers.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control system issues.
  • Service centrifugal, screw, scroll, and reciprocating chillers from various manufacturers.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain cooling towers, condenser water systems, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Analyze system performance and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reliability.
  • Conduct refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak detection procedures in accordance with EPA regulations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Complete startup, commissioning, and operational testing of new equipment installations.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and computerized controls to identify and resolve system issues.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, facility managers, and team members regarding equipment conditions and recommended repairs.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests as needed.

Position Requirements
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school certification in HVAC/R, Mechanical Systems, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of commercial HVAC experience, with specialized chiller experience preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and HVAC controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Factory training or certifications from major chiller manufacturers.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of VFDs, PLC controls, and advanced diagnostics.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with industrial, healthcare, data center, or mission-critical facilities.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift to 75 pounds on own
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and maneuver heavy items (with additional manpower or appropriate tools)
  • Ability to lift ladders from vehicle racks, carry and climb ladders up to 28' in length
  • Ability to withstand long periods of standing, squatting, stooping and crawling (stationary positions up to 50% of time)
  • Ability to feel, grasp, operate and position items with fingers and hands
  • Ability to effectively perform work at ground level, above ground level, below ground level and in confined spaces

Work Environment
The employee is regularly exposed to moderate levels of heat, cold, moisture, wind and sun. The noise level in the work environment is low with an occasional exposure to moderate levels.
