Bas Application Engineer information

What are BAS Application Engineers?

BAS Application Engineers are professionals who design, configure, and support Building Automation Systems (BAS), which control and monitor a building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. They work with software and hardware to ensure efficient building operations, energy management, and occupant comfort. BAS Application Engineers often collaborate with project managers, HVAC specialists, and IT professionals to customize solutions for each facility. Their role also includes troubleshooting issues, programming controllers, and ensuring systems are integrated and functioning as intended.

What are some common challenges faced by a BAS Application Engineer when integrating new systems into existing building automation infrastructures?

A BAS Application Engineer often encounters challenges such as ensuring compatibility between legacy equipment and new automation technologies, managing integration with diverse protocols like BACnet or Modbus, and minimizing system downtime during upgrades. Effective troubleshooting and clear communication with facility managers and other engineers are crucial for addressing unforeseen issues that arise during integration. Staying current with evolving industry standards also helps in delivering seamless and reliable solutions.

What is the salary of an application engineer?

The salary of an application engineer typically ranges from $70,000 to $110,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced engineers with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher salaries. Benefits often include health insurance, paid time off, and opportunities for professional development.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering with extensive experience and advanced skills can earn $300,000 or more annually. High-level roles often require advanced certifications, leadership responsibilities, and working in high-demand industries or companies with competitive compensation packages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BAS Application Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BAS Application Engineer, you need a solid understanding of building automation systems, HVAC controls, and electrical engineering principles, often supported by a degree in engineering or related certifications like Tridium or Niagara. Familiarity with programming tools, control system software, and network protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the efficient design, implementation, and troubleshooting of building automation systems, which are critical for energy efficiency and operational reliability.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or certain senior software engineering roles can earn $500,000 or more annually, often including bonuses and stock options. These positions typically require advanced skills, extensive experience, and often involve leadership or executive responsibilities.

How to become a BAS engineer?

To become a Building Automation System (BAS) engineer, typically one needs a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, along with experience in HVAC, electrical systems, or control systems. Certifications such as the Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) or manufacturer-specific training can enhance job prospects, and familiarity with programming languages like BACnet or LonWorks is often required.

What is the difference between Bas Application Engineer vs Control Systems Engineer?

AspectBas Application EngineerControl Systems Engineer

Job description

Sales Engineer / Application Engineer

Smarts and Parts Program

Company: Setpoint Systems Corporation Location: Littleton, CO Department: Sales Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $70-90k/yr plus commissions

About the Role

Setpoint Systems Corporation is looking for a Sales Engineer / Application Engineer to support and grow our Smarts and Parts Program. This role combines technical sales, front-end engineering, BAS/HVAC controls application support, and contractor enablement.

The right candidate will work directly with mechanical contractors, service companies, smaller controls contractors, and end users to qualify project needs, review mechanical scope, select practical controls solutions, support quotes, and help develop repeatable BAS/HVAC control packages.

This is a high-impact role for someone who understands HVAC systems, mechanical drawings, BAS controls, field devices, and contractor workflows — and who can turn that knowledge into scalable sales and support outcomes.

What You’ll Do

Technical Sales and Customer Intake

You will serve as a primary customer-facing technical resource for the Smarts and Parts Program. Responsibilities include qualifying incoming requests, understanding project scope, identifying controls intent, reviewing support needs, and helping customers determine whether their application fits a standard package, semi-custom solution, or custom engineering path.

You will support applications involving RTUs, FCUs, heat pumps, unit heaters, VAV/VVT systems, ventilation systems, small hydronic systems, and mini-BMS opportunities.

Engineering and Application Support

You will perform front-end engineering reviews, including mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, control diagrams, points lists, wiring needs, and sequences of operation.

You will help develop practical BAS/HVAC controls solutions, controller selections, points lists, wiring concepts, control narratives, material takeoffs, application templates, and packaged standards that can be reused as the program scales.

BAS and HVAC Controls Expertise

You will apply working knowledge of BAS controllers, sensors, relays, transformers, actuators, field devices, I/O, communication protocols, and HVAC control strategies.

You will help customers understand controller package selection, compatibility, basic networking considerations, and field installation expectations while escalating advanced or non-standard requests through the proper internal review path.

Subscription and Program Sales

You will help position the Smarts and Parts Program as more than a material sales channel. This role supports contractor enablement through engineered packages, documentation, training, technical support access, and Basic or Premium support/subscription offerings.

You will help drive recurring subscription growth while supporting bundled material sales.

Quoting, Pipeline, and Follow-Up

You will support quotes for standard controller packages, bundled controls material, accessories, and related support services. You will also help maintain customer records, subscription status, open opportunities, quote history, technical notes, and follow-up activity.

The goal is to build a repeatable, scalable sales pipeline with clean handoffs, clear scope boundaries, and strong customer engagement.

Contractor Enablement and Training

You will support contractor showcase events, lunch-and-learns, counter discussions, customer meetings, demonstration kits, controller samples, application guides, and standard presentation materials.

This role is ideal for someone who can help contractors with field labor capability bridge the gap into controls engineering, application support, and packaged BAS solutions.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

· Experience with BAS/HVAC controls, mechanical systems, and control applications.

· Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, control diagrams, points lists, and sequences of operation.

· Working knowledge of controllers, sensors, relays, transformers, actuators, I/O, wiring, and field devices.

· Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, programmable controllers, and BAS network concepts.

· Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to translate technical needs into practical solutions.

· Ability to qualify scope, identify missing information, and define support boundaries.

· Strong follow-through on quotes, customer records, technical notes, and sales pipeline activity.

· A practical, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to support both sales growth and engineering quality.

Success in This Role Looks Like

Success will be measured by qualified opportunity growth, conversion of standard and semi-custom package quotes, subscription customer growth, accurate front-end engineering reviews,

timely quote turnaround, clean customer records, contractor engagement, and actionable feedback that improves future product lines, vendor partnerships, and package standards.

Why This Role Matters

This role is central to building Setpoint’s Smarts and Parts Program into a scalable contractor enablement channel. By combining technical sales, front-end engineering, packaged application development, vendor-agnostic product support, and customer feedback, the Sales Engineer / Application Engineer will help Setpoint expand practical BAS/HVAC controls solutions across current and future platforms.
