Good bartenders also provide friendly service and contribute to the overall festive atmosphere of the celebration.

While both roles involve serving alcohol at events, bartending wedding focuses specifically on weddings, often requiring knowledge of wedding etiquette and specialized drink menus. Event bartenders work at a variety of functions, including corporate events and festivals. The key differences lie in the setting and sometimes in the specific skills needed, but both roles generally require similar certifications and serve similar industries.

How to get into wedding bartending?

To become a wedding bartender, gain bartending experience by working at bars or events, and obtain a bartending or alcohol server certification if required locally. Develop strong customer service skills, knowledge of drink recipes, and be prepared to work flexible hours during weekends and evenings.

How much money do wedding bartenders make?

Wedding bartenders typically earn between $150 and $300 per event, with hourly rates ranging from $15 to $25. Their total income depends on the number of events they work, tips received, and experience level, with some earning additional income through gratuities and commissions for premium services.

What are some unique challenges bartenders face when working at wedding events compared to a traditional bar setting?

Bartending at weddings often involves managing high guest volumes in a short time, adapting to different venues, and creating a festive yet professional atmosphere. Unlike a traditional bar, wedding bartenders must coordinate closely with event planners, caterers, and other staff to ensure seamless service during key moments like toasts and speeches. Flexibility is crucial, as each wedding may have unique drink menus, special requests, and varying setups. This role offers valuable experience in event management and can open doors to opportunities in the broader hospitality and event planning industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Wedding Bartender, and why are they important?

To thrive as a wedding bartender, you need a solid understanding of drink recipes, mixology techniques, and responsible alcohol service, often supported by a bartending certification or alcohol server permit. Familiarity with bar tools, POS systems, and event-specific protocols is typically required. Exceptional customer service, multitasking, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills ensure efficient service, guest satisfaction, and smooth event operations in a fast-paced, celebratory environment.

What is the 50% rule in bartending?

The 50% rule in bartending refers to the guideline that a bartender should serve no more than 50% of their drinks with alcohol and the remaining 50% with non-alcoholic beverages, especially during events like weddings. This helps ensure responsible service and reduces the risk of over-intoxication among guests. Adhering to this rule is part of responsible alcohol service and may be reinforced by server training certifications.

Marché bursts with historic charm, due to our location in America’s oldest public market. The French Market was first founded in 1791 on the banks of the Mississippi River and has remained a popular French Quarter destination ever since. Though the market has been built and rebuilt many times, significant sections include the Butchers’ Market, now home to the famous Café du Monde; the Bazaar Market, built by Joseph Abeilard, one of our nation’s first African-American architects; and the Cuisine Market, now home to Marché. All of the buildings run alongside Dutch Alley, a statue-lined pedestrian plaza also available for event rentals.
Before opening Marché, the building was carefully renovated to bring out its historic French Quarter charms. We hand-applied old-world Venetian plaster and restored the closed, unused balconies to their original open-air beauty. Marché is sure to sparkle during your next wedding or special event.
