Job description

This up-and-coming, multi discipline facility just across the boarder from Memphis, Tennessee is looking for a new Barrel Racing Trainer to help them grow! This facility is already well into development, boasting a 50 acre, lower level eventing course, 3 outdoor arenas and an Indoor under construction, a 12 stall pole barn and competition barn in the works, a couple of show series, and big plans for improvement! This is a team who believes in supporting their employees and providing opportunities for their team to reach their goals. Individuals applying for this job must be experienced equestrians first and foremost, but also share the kind and caring spirit embodied by the rest of the team at this facility.
This is a well-staffed, well organized equestrian operation under the leadership of a globally accomplished FEI equestrian. Applicants will be expected to partake in the daily care chores of the horses, though they will have the opportunity to shift their focus to teaching & training as the facility matures.
Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Barrel Racing Trainer who isn't afraid of taking on an existing program of ~17 students who compete in ~20 events per year off-site, as well as in-house! The ideal candidate will have proven success in 1D/2D competition from a variety of venues, and have experience training horses and developing riders from beginner on. This person should be comfortable promoting their abilities as a trainer, sourcing quality horses for the program, and be interested in growing a racing series at this facility. Currently, the facility is home to 15 full-time residents, 8 of which are stable boarders, but has serious ambitions to grow in the immediate future!

Job Duties
- Train and exercise the horses in the barrel program, keeping them tuned up for performance in both lessons and competition
- Design and implement lesson program for beginners-advanced students of all ages
- Promote the Barrel Racing program within the local community
- Collaborate with the Equestrian Director and Stable Management staff to ensure horses needs are well met
- As needed, assist with basic farm chores
- Collaborate with Equestrian Director on growth and direction of the program as a whole
- Manage the barrel program's budget and reporting along with Equestrian Director and Finance staff
- Prepare for each lesson by ensuring the horses are ready and the arena prepared for your unique lesson plan
- Maintain tack and equipment related to your horses/students
- Assist with the organization and participation of shows at the home facility and beyond

Job Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years professional experience as a Barrel Racing Trainer with your own clientele
- Willing, fit, and able to ride a variety of horses from experienced school horses to green prospects as program grows
- Experience teaching students of all ages
- Willingness to teach beginner riders as well as advanced riders
- Willingness to travel to shows, clinics, schoolings, and educational events
- Capable of producing quality horses for the barrel program as needs develop
- Experience promoting and building an equestrian lesson program
- Ability to drive a truck & trailer, and willingness to haul client horses
- *Experience in (or willingness to learn) managing the operations of races on-site
