Position Summary
Join the UNC Hospitals Nutrition & Food Services team at our Starbucks location inside the North Carolina Cancer Hospital. This role combines Commercial Cashier and Barista responsibilities in a high-volume, fast-paced, customer-facing hospital café serving staff, patients, and visitors. The environment requires frequent interaction with diverse populations, extended periods of standing, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining a high standard of service and efficiency.
This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable barista and customer service experience in a team-oriented, mission-driven setting that supports the community every day. The position combines Commercial Cashier and Barista responsibilities, with comprehensive training provided to ensure success.
Key Responsibilities
Provide prompt, accurate, and friendly customer service
Craft and serve high-quality coffee and specialty beverages to Starbucks standards
Prepare food products following established recipes and procedures
Operate a cashless point-of-sale system (credit/debit/mobile pay)
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards
Stock and support daily café operations
Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Training
No previous barista experience is required. All team members receive Starbucks barista training and food safety/sanitation training (including certification such as ServSafe), provided during onboarding and reinforced through ongoing development.
Qualifications
Minimum: Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance; strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; willingness to learn multiple functions within the operation.
Professional Experience Requirements:
One (1) year of experience as a cashier or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Professional Experience Preferred:
Six (6) months of experience as a barista in a coffee shop is highly desired.
Work Schedule
Variable, flexible availability is required, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with hours based on operational needs.
Work Type
Part-Time (Year-Round); seasonal or temporary is not available. Candidates seeking full-time hours must apply separately to full-time postings.
