What is a bariatric program manager?

Bariatric Program Managers are healthcare professionals who oversee and coordinate all aspects of a bariatric (weight loss) program within a medical facility. Their responsibilities include developing and implementing clinical protocols, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, managing patient care pathways, and leading multidisciplinary teams such as surgeons, dietitians, and nurses. They also educate patients about weight loss surgery options, preoperative and postoperative care, and support services. The goal of a Bariatric Program Manager is to ensure the program runs smoothly and that patients receive comprehensive, high-quality care throughout their weight loss journey.

How does a bariatric program manager typically collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care?

A Bariatric Program Manager works closely with a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, dietitians, nurses, psychologists, and administrative staff, to coordinate care for bariatric patients. This collaboration is essential to providing seamless preoperative and postoperative support, patient education, and ongoing follow-up, ultimately improving patient outcomes and program success.
