Job Summary
As a part of the Sendik's team, the Deli Cook is responsible for delivering "best in class" customer service to all guests at the Deli counter and on the sales floor. The main responsibility of the Deli Cook is to prepare all Deli cold case and hot case items, as well as, soups, entrees based on the daily production schedule. The Deli Cook will also assist in miscellaneous duties, including, but not limited to, filling the Deli case and salad bar when it gets low, maintaining the back coolers and cleaning.

Work Experience
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Serve customers in the Deli Department while modeling Sendik's culture and providing "best in class" customer service, which includes, greeting, engaging, delighting and thanking every guest for their business
  • Cook all items for the deli cold case and hot bar, including, but not limited to, packaged foods, entrees, salads and soups while adhering to and following company recipes.
  • Ensure that the deli case, wall and hot bar is always full and fresh with the best quality deli products
  • Observe and evaluate trends to determine the type and quantity of food to produce
  • Support special event stations (ex. Fish Fry), including Sendik's and customer events
  • Answer questions regarding products and ingredients, offering suggestions and recommendations when appropriate
  • Maintain and update daily and weekly reports (sanitation, temperature and cooling logs)
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, organized and ready each day
  • Assist with training and coaching of new associates within the Deli Department
  • Assist with events when needed, including Sendik's events and customer events
  • Package, price and label Deli items
  • Assist Deli Department with stocking, rotating and facing the Deli wall
  • Operate, maintain and clean deli equipment including knives, ovens, fryers, dishwashers, coolers and slicers
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety/sanitation regulations and procedures
  • Assist with all other Deli Department duties as needed

Qualifications:
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to required operation of Deli equipment
  • Previous cooking experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient knife handling skills
  • Eagerness to interact with customers
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions independently regarding department needs and priorities, under general supervision
  • Strong sense of team - ability to anticipate the needs of the team
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, push/pull for extended periods of time
