Cloud Engineer

Top Three Skills:
1. Experience managing AWS Cloud environments. Must have been involved in a cloud migration, Client is in the planning phase of moving to AWS.
2. At least 4 years of experience maintaining RHEL Servers. You will be responsible for managing their linux environment (cloud & on prem)
3. Experience with cloud migration tools and cloud deployment strategies such as JSON and Cloudfoundation

Job Description:
Based on where they are in the cloud journey but lets say they get them in the next 30 days they will be heavily involved in the mapping strategy whether or not they know how to use the tools is irrelevant. They need them for their cloud expertise. Someone who has used AWS before and how the resources are provisioned, some of the best practices on how to configure stuff and has done cloud migrations before. This person will need to have best practices in migrating to the cloud. Coming in, leveraging skills based on their experience and helping with that assessment process.
The first 45 days: This person will be working with a separate team to support their Ellucian Banner team. They are looking to move banner to AWS. If they have banner experience that's a huge plus but it isn't necessary. They would assess that application and make recommendations to leverage AWS to host Banner.
The Cloud Specialist is a member of the IT Operations team in the IT Global Service Management organization and reports to the Sr. Director, IT Operations. This individual will be included in all projects that require integration into public and private cloud infrastructure. This individual will also assist in maintaining and monitoring all cloud-based systems. This individual will also contribute to activities around public, private, and hybrid deployments
• Responsible for managing Laureate's Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment (Cloud and on-prem)
• Responsible for managing existing and future public cloud infrastructure and platforms
• Assist in developing Laureate's Cloud strategy for current and future plans
• Assist in architecting the Laureate public and hybrid cloud offering for all internal customers
• Provide guidance to Laureate's internal Infrastructure, Operations and Architect teams on cloud design, support and functionality
• Assist in determining the placement of existing and future applications within the public cloud
• Responsible for maintaining and protecting current Laureate standards for compute, storage, backups and security
• Collaborate with internal and external teams on cloud-based deployments and future strategies
• Work with product owners and application support teams to develop and implement cloud migration plans
• Develop and implement best practices around security management, availability management, and release management.
• Create and maintain documentation on Linux server builds, policies and procedures, ensuring they are accurate and current.
• Responsible for ensuring best practices for server configuration, patching and system management
• Responsible for hardening of all Linux servers within the environment
Additional Information: Cloud Project Scope:
Right now they have a very public cloud footprint but they have engaged amazon directly and going through an assessment period with them right now and with the assessment they are measuring their maturity to actually adopt the cloud. Once this is done they will create a landing zone which is basically the foundation to utilize public resources for AWS. From there they will start launching the Cloud Planning phase and that is where they end up installing a tool that maps out their entire environment. This tool looks at resources that are over provisioned under provisioned and correlates the entire environment. What is produced from that is a list of all assets and what is cloud ready and what apps can go together and what apps need to be reengineered. From that they would start a migration plan and partner with someone to help them and looking to migrate 25 a week over a 3 year period. They have about 2k assets that they will be migrating and they are figuring around the June time frame they will start the migration
