The ACH Operations Specialist II will perform functions to support the electronic banking transaction processing of Automatic Clearing House (ACH) payments while adhering to any and all applicable governances including the National ACH Association (NACHA) Rules, interact with clients and personnel from various banking institutions and internal departments to resolve issues in regard to transaction settlement or other inquiries. May be called upon to train and mentor new associates. Handles escalated issues and resolution needs.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  • Ability to manage workflow and delegate as appropriate.
  • NACHA File Specification Knowledge with ability to analyze client files and identify areas of concern and communicate results to clients.
  • Process ACH Client Disputes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Understanding and compliance of NACHA Rules and Regulations
  • Level 2 Issue Research & Resolution
  • Ability to multitask
  • Data Entry (i.e. file maintenance, transactions)
  • Clerical Duties (i.e. filing, scanning)
  • Admin Duties (i.e. escalation of issues, query writing, reporting)
  • Document and Data Review
  • ACH File processing
  • Handles internal/external telephone calls
  • Work with vendors to resolve system issues.
  • Balancing of daily ACH activity
  • Coordinates and participates in Annual Release testing, scheduling, and system maintenance.
  • Coordinates and participates in Annual Disaster Recovery exercise testing.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Word & Excel
  • Strong customer service experience, including client issue resolution

Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of appropriate banking software (i.e. Jack Henry)
  • 3- 5 years experience in Banking Operations or Retail Banking experience
  • Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) Certification
  • Possess a thorough understanding of NACHA file specifications

Level of Complexity and Scope
  • Moderate to highly complex

Degree of Independence and Decision-Making
  • Works both under direct supervision of ACH Manager, Team Lead, and independently at times.

Required Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Assists in mentoring and training new associates
  • Resolve Level 2 escalations or escalate to Operations Specialist III, Team Lead, or Manager

Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally stands and walks.
  • Frequently sits.

Compliance Statement
The associate is responsible for meeting all compliance requirements imposed on First Financial Bank by State and Federal law and regulation, as well as all related First Financial Bank policies and procedures. This includes all Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, OFAC and Suspicious Activity reporting requirements, as well as all other lending and deposit compliance requirements.
Development and Training
  • Completion of training and passing of certification test for Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) Certification, if not already obtained

Pay Range::
$19.47/hr to $23.56/hr
