Overview

In this role, the Lending Specialist will support Business Banking customers and internal partners by ensuring the efficient delivery of lending products and services. The Lending Specialist will serve as a knowledgeable resource for our Retail and Business Banking teams, helping to resolve issues, support loan processing workflows, and uphold the Bank's strong credit riskmanagement culture.

This position is part of our first line of defense and is responsible for adhering to established controls, maintaining data integrity, and supporting performance excellence.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison between customers and/or internal partners, providing timely, accurate, and professional support.
  • Respond to inquiries, resolve issues proactively, and ensure consistently positive customer experience.
  • Assist customers and/or partners with loan servicing questions and maintain uptodate account knowledge.
  • Review and process requests for portfolio management, loan and modification applications, closing documentation, and funding requests while ensuring accuracy and compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate qualifying criteria to ensure loans meet program and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of loan documentation, maintaining disciplined adherence to compliance and control standards for processing and/or readiness for an underwriter.
  • Leverage approved websites and tools to validate and document required due diligence.
  • Monitor internal reports to identify, resolve, and process requests to mitigate risk.
  • Report customer complaints to the Office of Customer Advocacy when required.
  • Provide backup support for team members for coverage during absences.
  • Perform data entry and system review with exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and data integrity.
  • Maintain organized, uptodate records related to accounts, products, services, and customer interactions.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Education & Experience Required
  • Associate degree and minimum 2 years of customer service experience in Banking, Retail, or Credit; OR a combined 4 years of relevant education/work experience including 2 years of customer service.

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • PC proficiency and comfort with key software applications.
  • Ability to work as a team member, and to work effectively under pressure with sound judgment and professional discretion.
Education & Experience Preferred
  • Knowledge of business banking products, systems, and workflows.
