The Personal Banker is responsible for winning new business and consumer deposit and loan relationships and deepening existing relationships by delivering exceptional customer service. The personal banker will continue to build foundational sales, service, and relationship management skills. This role combines sales with excellent customer service, supports branch operations and assists clients with their financial needs. Personal Bankers will develop skills to effectively navigate WaFd systems, engage clients through consultative conversations, and identify solutions that support customers' financial goals. This position provides hands on experience with daily operational responsibilities and emphasizes the development of strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.

As part of the requirements of the role, the Personal Banker works toward completing WaFd's foundational certifications, supporting ongoing professional development and career advancement within WaFd.

A successful Personal Banker must:

  • Build skills toward a solid knowledge base of bank products and services to maintain rapport with clients, understand their needs, and provide solutions - with the goal of bringing new deposit and loan relationships to the bank.
  • Assist clients with their banking needs; open new accounts, discuss and refer or originate loans, and onboard new clients.
  • Make out-of-office calls and visits to businesses, community organizations, and referral sources as assigned by leadership.Introduce and demonstrate digital and self-service options to clients.
  • Contribute to strategies to help expand small business and consumer client base.
  • Communicate clearly with staff and clients verbally, over the phone, and via video chat.
  • Comfortable functioning as a concierge or greeter.
  • Develop skills, competencies and certifications necessary to support branch performance goals.
  • Ensure high level of customer satisfaction through the delivery of excellent service.
  • Proactively accepts bank initiatives and assignments.
  • Reflect the core values and ethics of WaFd Bank, including integrity, teamwork, ownership, simplicity, discipline, and service. In addition, they must be kind.
Qualifications

Education/Skills/Training:

  • High school diploma or approved equivalent.
  • Business related college classes or degree preferred.
  • Good math skills, 10-key and keyboarding, standard Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, Teams, PowerBI and Outlook.
  • In addition, smart phone and digital channel skills are well developed. Must have excellent organizational and analytical skills and superior written and oral communication skills. Ability to demonstrate how to use automated technology to teach clients self-service skills.
  • Must have satisfactory transportation.

Experience:

  • Prior banking experience, including previous work in customer service or equivalent. Preference is given to candidates who have 2 - 4 years' experience in banking, experience in recommending products and services or experience in client relationship management.
