Job description

Position Title: Senior Software Engineer โ€“ Backend (Python/Django & PostgreSQL)

Location: Hybrid (Phoenix, AZ)

Job Summary

Client is seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and optimize high-throughput financial microservices and scalable web applications. In this role, you will leverage Python, Django, and PostgreSQL to deliver secure, resilient, and enterprise-grade transaction engines and digital product APIs.

Key Responsibilities

  • API & System Architecture: Build and maintain scalable RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Python and Django/Django REST Framework (DRF) to power digital banking and merchant payment workflows.

  • Database Management: Architect, optimize, and maintain complex relational databases with PostgreSQL, ensuring optimal query performance, index strategies, and data consistency across microservices.

  • Resilient Infrastructure: Implement caching layers (Redis/Memcached), message brokers (Kafka/RabbitMQ), and asynchronous task queues (Celery) for decoupled, high-performance background processing.

  • Security & Compliance: Ensure code strict adherence to PCI-DSS compliance, data encryption standards, OAuth2/JWT security, and robust risk mitigation protocols for sensitive customer data.

  • Testing & CI/CD: Write unit, integration, and performance tests (pytest) while maintaining dynamic CI/CD deployment pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product management, security, and cloud architecture teams in an Agile/Scrum environment to drive system modernization and feature delivery.
