Bank managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a bank branch or financial institution. They supervise staff, ensure customer satisfaction, manage budgets, and work to achieve business targets such as sales and customer growth. Bank managers also handle complex customer issues, ensure regulatory compliance, and help implement the bank's strategic policies at the branch level. Their leadership is key to maintaining the bank’s reputation and financial performance.

What does a bank manager do?

A bank manager oversees the daily operation of a bank branch. As a bank manager, your responsibilities include training employees, ensuring accurate accounting practices, and providing excellent customer service to your clients. You also maintain compliance with all in-house and government policies and regulations. You serve as the liaison between your bank and local businesses. If you work for a large national bank, maintaining a good relationship with the community is a crucial part of your job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a bank manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bank Manager, you need a solid background in finance or business administration, strong leadership abilities, and prior banking experience, often supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with banking software, risk management systems, and regulatory compliance tools is essential. Outstanding interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help build trust with clients and lead teams successfully. These skills and qualities are critical for ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory adherence, and delivering excellent customer service in a competitive banking environment.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys leading field teams, coordinating daily operations, solving problems, and ensuring customers receive consistent, high-quality service. The Branch Supervisor will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the Stockton branch, with responsibility for employee supervision, routing and scheduling, service completion, safety, fleet and equipment coordination, and customer service.

The ideal candidate is a strong frontline leader who is comfortable moving between the office, yard, and field. This person will work closely with the Branch Manager while remaining actively involved in daily operations and supporting employees in the field when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support branch employees to ensure daily routes, service work, and customer commitments are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Coordinate daily staffing, routing, scheduling, and field coverage based on operational and customer needs.
  • Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, training, and direction to field employees.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, safety, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct field observations and quality checks to maintain high standards for service and customer experience.
  • Respond to operational challenges throughout the day and adjust staffing, routes, or resources as necessary.
  • Assist with interviewing, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Partner with the Branch Manager to identify staffing needs and maintain appropriate coverage for the operation.
  • Support vehicle inspections and ensure required pre-trip and operational documentation is completed appropriately.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repair needs for company vehicles and equipment with appropriate fleet resources.
  • Maintain high standards for the condition, cleanliness, and care of company vehicles, equipment, and branch facilities.
  • Assist with customer concerns and service issues, ensuring problems are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • Work closely with the Branch Manager, operations, sales, fleet, and other departments to support branch goals.
  • Monitor daily operational activity and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and service quality.
  • Step into field operations when necessary to maintain service levels and operational continuity.
  • Ensure employees follow established safety policies, procedures, and company standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous supervisory, operations, route management, field-service leadership, or comparable experience.
  • Experience supervising field-based employees such as drivers, technicians, route personnel, service employees, or similar teams.
  • Experience in a field-service, route-based, logistics, construction, equipment, environmental, industrial, or similar operational environment preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach employees, provide direction, address performance concerns, and hold team members accountable.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple employees, routes, and priorities throughout the day.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and ability to effectively resolve service issues.
  • Safety-minded with an understanding of the importance of vehicle, equipment, and field-service procedures.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with branch leadership and other departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Teams, and the ability to learn routing and field-service technology.
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional education or relevant training preferred.
  • Valid California driver's license required.
