Job description

The initial training for this role will take place in Independence and may require up to a year to complete the training period. After training completion, this role may be flexible with branch location.Position Summary

The Core Banking Specialist I supports day-to-day administration, maintenance, data quality, system integration support, system security support, core user access setup, user support, and change adoption functions for BankIowa's core banking environment. This role assists with product and parameter updates, integration support, controlled testing, documentation, report requests, team member support, and Intranet backup responsibilities. The position is expected to be a positive champion of change by helping team members understand improvements, adopt new processes, and maintain accurate, reliable, secure, and well-governed systems.

Key Responsibilities

Core System Support, Integrations, Security & Maintenance

  • Assist with routine maintenance of core banking products, services, parameters, and customer or account-related settings under established procedures and approvals.
  • Support system accuracy by reviewing data, identifying inconsistencies, and helping resolve data quality issues.
  • Assist with core release preparation, validation, post-implementation review, and documentation activities.
  • Support system integrations by helping validate data flow, configuration requirements, connectivity changes, and business-line readiness.
  • Assist with core system security and user access setup, including new user setup, role-based access changes, access reviews, and approval documentation.

User Support, Training & Documentation

  • Provide timely support to team members across business lines for core-related questions, troubleshooting, and process guidance.
  • Create and maintain practical procedures, quick reference materials, and training aids for end users and frontline trainers.
  • Support the train-the-trainer model by preparing materials and assisting with team member training as requested.
  • Communicate core changes and process updates in a clear, business-friendly manner that promotes understanding, confidence, and positive adoption.

Testing, Reporting, Intranet Backup & Change Support

  • Assist with testing, user acceptance validation, and documentation for core system changes, enhancements, and product updates.
  • Prepare or assist with routine reports and data extracts for business areas, audits, reviews, and operational analysis.
  • Serve as backup to the Core Banking Specialist II for BankIowa Intranet updates, maintenance, content accuracy, clean data, and approved purge or cleanup activities.
  • Follow BankIowa change management practices, including documentation, approvals, validation, and controlled rollout support.
  • Escalate issues, risks, or exceptions to the Senior Core Banking Manager or appropriate system owner.

Governance, Compliance & Collaboration

  • Follow BankIowa policies, procedures, information security standards, and applicable state and federal banking requirements.
  • Protect confidential customer, team member, and bank information and follow established access control practices.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Operations, Digital Banking, Consumer Banking, Business Banking, Finance, Risk/Compliance, IT, and other business partners.
  • Complete annual compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, CIP, privacy, and information security training applicable to the role.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent banking or systems experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of banking products, account processing, deposit operations, loan operations, or core banking systems preferred.
  • Comfort learning technology systems, Intranet content standards, system integrations, system security concepts, user access setup, procedures, reporting tools, and system maintenance processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, documentation discipline, and follow-through.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with team members at all levels of the organization.
