POSITION/TITLE: Maintenance Mechanic
WORK LOCATION: Jacksonville, FL
POSITION REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor
WORK TYPE: On site
JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnoses, and mechanical and/or electrical repairs and adjustments of production and packaging equipment. The adjustments and repairs are performed on straw machines, baggers and conveyors along with performing change-overs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Diagnoses problems by inspecting and disassembling equipment to determine extent of repairs necessary.
  • Performs mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic and hydro repairs to the straw machines, bagging machines carton erectors and conveyors.
  • Uses drawings, diagrams, and operational manuals, manufacturing specifications, etc., when diagnosing problems and making repairs.
  • Performs equipment evaluations at the start of shift to ensure production flow is consistent.
  • Repairs and re-build parts such as guards, bagger, hoppers, front ends, cylinders along with pneumatic valves, and air regulators.
  • Must be able to read and understand a job order and specifications required for the job.
  • Continuously checks quality of the straws and makes machine adjustments to maintain proper quality; lengths, cuts, diameter, color, etc.
  • Makes blade changes in a safe manner on Extruder Cutters.
  • Operate all machinery at production standard consistently with minimal waste.
  • Performs change-overs on the straw machines.
  • Mix material in proper ratios.
  • Change and clean filters in Vacuum Loaders.
  • Provides assistance to other Maintenance Mechanics while working on production machines and associated equipment.
  • Responsible for communicating to the leadership team immediately of any failure to meet established quality standards to ensure required training and action.
  • Notifies the Plant Manager, shift supervisor and team members on any adjustments of repairs that are outside of their scope of responsibility or ability to repair.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner to include performing lock-out/tag-out of equipment before making any repairs.
  • Communicate with supervisors and co-workers on the status of equipment.
  • Maintains housekeeping standards by keeping a clean and safe work area at all times.
  • Attend meeting and training session as required.
  • Participates in the training of new team members.
  • Performs additional assignments and/or special projects that may require physical activity beyond those required functions of the job.
  • Collaboration with plant, safety, and leadership.
  • Adheres to all good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements; rectify and/or report any and all non-compliance to Leadership or the SQF practitioner immediately.
  • Follows WinCup OPERA Values, safety initiatives, and other related plant standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
  1. At least two years’ experience in maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Mechanical aptitude of sound judgement.
  3. Mathematical knowledge.
  4. Basic PC skills including Excel and use of web based applications to use FedEx, UPS and print labels.
  5. Excellent communication skills (verbal amp; written).
  6. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English in order to complete job specific paperwork.
  7. Ability to work independently and function as a team member.
  8. Good planning and organizing skills.

  • Team Member may be required to stand for long periods up to 8, 10 or 12 hours shifts.
  • Team Member may be required to talk, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crawl or crouch.
WORK ENVIRONMENT (Manufacturing Plant):

Note that office positions located within our Manufacturing Plants often require some plant floor presence throughout the day so these work environment details may not always apply, they should still be noted.
  • Work space is one that contains moving mechanical parts.
  • Requires work in an indoor manufacturing environment that may be exposed to extreme heat that is not air conditioned.
  • Work environment contains loud noises and odors that may last for long periods of time or on a continual basis as well as occasional airborne particles.
  • Must wear PPE while working, which includes hairnet, facial net, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards at all times.
  • Ability to work an 8+, 10+ or 12+ hour shifts as designated.
  • Able to work weekdays, weekends and overtime as designated.
