Backup Architect


On behalf of our client, Procom Services is searching for a Backup Architect for a contract opportunity in Dallas, TX.


Backup Architect Job Details


The Storage and Backup Architect is responsible for assessing the storage, data management and data protection needs of the business. Based on these assessments, this position will work cross functionally within the cloud architecture team to recommend, and design a go forward architect which addresses currently identified challenges and supports future needs and business objectives for the Managed Services Organization. This position reports to the Cloud Architecture team within the Infrastructure Services organization. As, such this person should also have a working knowledge of cloud and multi-tenant datacenter constructs. This individual may also act as a liaison to other departments, representing the cloud team on all technical matters related to storage management. This position requires a background in storage and backup solutions as well as some SAN management experience, with a demonstrated ability to design and architect complex solution around the data storage, data management and data protection needs of a broad and diverse set of applications and business systems. Strong organizational and communication skills are necessary. A strong background in designing, implementing, and supporting disk- and tape-based storage infrastructures is required. A strong background in cloud technologies and the service provider industry is also highly desired.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

Assess the storage and backup solutions in use within the core Managed Services Infrastructure

Identify the data storage, management, protection and disaster recover requirements of the various applications and business systems in use across the core shared infrastructure

Evaluate any identified challenges and future needs of these applications and systems in order to recommend and architect needed remediations and potential new storage and backup systems

Ability to apply knowledge of SAN, NAS and Object Storage technologies to the needs of the Manages Services business.

Ability to apply knowledge of SAN fabric architecture and sound technology architecture principles to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions, including zoning, tape drives, tape libraries, disk storage, virtual tape libraries, storage mirroring and deduplication.

Network knowledge, including bandwidth, NIC configuration, CIFS, NFS, and NDMP is required.

Operating systems knowledge, including Windows and Linux, is required. AIX and Solaris knowledge would be a plus.

New technology awareness and research skills are necessary.

Ability to work on project teams, delivering on key project milestones, and communicating effectively with a wide variety of people.

Participation in Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing.

Experience with large storage environments (6PB+).

Experience in performance, tuning and capacity planning is required; as is experience with proactive monitoring and automation.


Backup Architect Mandatory Skills

Minimum of 10 years' experience in strong technical background in industry standard (SAN and NAS) storage technologies, with the proven capability to implement and support complex environments. CommVault backup product experience is desired, as is a strong knowledge of UNIX and Windows operating systems and architecture.

Experience with the EMC family of storage products would be a plus.

Excellent people and communications skills are an absolute requirement.

Excellent troubleshooting skills are required.


Bachelor's degree highly preferred and/or 10-12 or more years' experience
