Job description

VectorUSA is seeking a highly motivated, charismatic, and technically adept Pre-Sales Engineer, Physical Security (Video Surveillance/Access Control) to support our nationwide sales team from our Torrance, CA office. This role serves as the critical bridge between Sales, Engineering, and our clients-translating business needs into well-defined, scalable technology solutions.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling them to confidently engage with clients, uncover requirements, and guide solution development. This individual will play a key role in shaping solutions for Physical Security Systems and IT Network Infrastructure, while ensuring all technical and business requirements are clearly documented for engineering and estimation teams.
This role requires the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in a clear and compelling way, as well as strong technical writing skills to produce detailed scopes, requirements, and documentation that enable accurate bill of materials (BOM) development and final proposal creation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a primary technical liaison between Sales, clients, and internal Engineering/Estimation teams
  • Lead and participate in client-facing discovery sessions, workshops, and site walks to understand business objectives and technical requirements
  • Translate client needs into conceptual solutions and high-level architectures for physical security and network infrastructure
  • Collaborate with Sales to position solutions effectively, including technical presentations and client consultations
  • Review RFPs, RFQs, SOWs, and design documents to develop aligned solution strategies
  • Produce clear, detailed technical documentation, including:
    • Solution narratives
    • Scopes of work
    • Assumptions and clarifications
    • Design intent documentation for engineering teams
  • Work closely with Estimators and Engineers to ensure all requirements are accurately translated into BOMs and formal proposals
  • Interface with manufacturers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to validate solution design and pricing approaches
  • Support the development of conceptual drawings and system designs using tools such as Bluebeam or IPVM
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with client business outcomes
  • Participate in internal solution reviews, proposal reviews, and project handoff meetings
  • Provide technical guidance during project kickoff and support teams during execution as needed

Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in pre-sales, solution engineering, estimation, or system design within IT infrastructure and/or physical security
  • Strong background in video surveillance, access control, and supporting network infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Network switching, routing, and wireless connectivity
    • Server and cloud-based infrastructure
    • Physical layer infrastructure (fiber, copper, pathways)
  • Proven ability to engage directly with clients, lead discussions, and translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to clearly document requirements for engineering and estimation teams
  • Ability to interpret and respond to RFPs, construction drawings, and technical specifications
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with physical security platforms such as Verkada, Brivo, Hanwha, Axis, Avigilon, Hirsch, Milestone
  • Familiarity with Aruba and Cisco networking platforms
  • Experience designing or supporting integrated security and network solutions
  • Experience with wireless backhaul and remote connectivity solutions
  • Background in server-based video management systems (VMS)
  • Previous field, installation, or project delivery experience
  • Familiarity with structured cabling systems and infrastructure design

Preferred Certifications
  • RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer)
  • CCNA, Aruba, or similar networking certifications
  • Manufacturer certifications in physical security or networking technologies
