Job description

Lead Backfill Excavator Operator

DNT Construction is now hiring several experienced Lead Backfill Excavator Operators for our Austin Wet Utilities Austin area projects! The Wet Utilities Department supports the underground utility systems by properly backfilling and compacting trenches after pipe installation. To be considered for the role, you must:

  • Have at least 2 to 3 years of experience operating a 300-class excavator in utilities or heavy civil construction.
  • Knowledge in the testing of soils.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
  • A valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Compensation is commensurate with experience. A work week averages 40 to 60 hours. This job is labor-intensive, and you will be working outside! What We Offer:

Responsibilities:

  • Excavate mainline trenches accurately to the required grade and alignment.
  • Operate equipment safely near crew members and other trades.
  • Monitor trench conditions continuously to ensure stability and safety.
  • Identify and implement appropriate trench protection methods, including benching and sloping, when needed.
  • Safely lower pipe and material into trench using proper rigging techniques.
  • Move and position trench boxes safely in coordination with team.
  • Set and main the pace of excavating to meet daily production goals.
  • Read and interpret plans and grade stakes, experience preferred.
