Job description

This role is the core of our payments infrastructure. You'd be joining a 3-person backend team. We ship frequently, we have good test coverage, and the codebase is cleaner than most. You'd have real ownership of significant pieces of the system from day one.

What you'll do
  • - Own and improve our escrow and payout systems built on Stripe Connect
  • - Design and implement APIs for new platform features (milestones, project management, messaging)
  • - Work directly with our support team to understand pain points and build tooling that fixes them
  • - Review code from other engineers, improve test coverage, and push back on shortcuts that create technical debt
  • - Participate in on-call rotation (roughly 1 week in 4)
Requirements
  • - 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Node.js
  • - Solid understanding of PostgreSQL -- query optimization, schema design, migrations
  • - Experience building and maintaining payment integrations (Stripe or equivalent)
  • - Comfort working in a small team where you'll make architecture decisions without a lot of process
  • - Based in Columbus or willing to be in office 2-3 days/week
Nice to have
  • - Experience with marketplace or gig economy platforms
  • - Familiarity with fraud detection patterns
  • - TypeScript in production
