Job Summary

LaborForce is seeking a technically proficient and professionally authoritative Patient Experience Specialist. This dual-function role requires an individual to manage on-site patient engagement at a major medical facility on the Near West Side of Chicago while executing critical revenue cycle workflows within the Epic EMR system for our partner institutions. You will be responsible for identifying and engaging accident and injury patients at the point of entry, while performing the technical data management and insurance optimization tasks required to protect hospital revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  1. On-Site Patient Engagement (Near West Side Chicago)

Identify and engage accident and injury patients within the Emergency Department immediately following clinical stabilization.

Serve as the primary liaison for patients, providing immediate guidance on follow-up care pathways and available resources within the medical network.

Coordinate directly with Emergency Room nursing staff and physicians to improve patient capture rates and ensure a seamless transition to specialist follow-up.

Facilitate the "warm handoff" to the external case management team to ensure long-term clinical retention and support.

  1. Technical Revenue Cycle Execution (Epic EMR)

Maintain high-level proficiency within the Epic EMR platform to manage account data and insurance information.

Execute critical data entry functions to ensure that injury-related accounts are properly flagged and optimized for the correct payor.

Perform account maintenance and suppression activities within Epic to prevent premature billing cycles and ensure data integrity.

Monitor system settings to ensure the identification window aligns with institutional billing cycles, preventing revenue leakage.

  1. Operational Integration

Work from network offices to execute back-end data tasks and revenue cycle audits when not stationed on-site.

Maintain 100% accuracy in documentation to bypass standard workqueue errors and denials.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Hard Skills

Epic EMR Proficiency (Mandatory): Advanced knowledge of Epic, specifically within registration, billing, or insurance verification modules.

Revenue Cycle Knowledge: Solid understanding of Third Party Liability (Auto/Liability) and Workers’ Compensation billing processes.

Clinical Literacy: Ability to navigate an Emergency Department environment and understand injury-related medical documentation.

Soft Skills

Operational Agility: Flexibility to handle a dynamic schedule that will evolve as team needs change.

Authoritative Professionalism: Ability to command a situation in a high-stress environment while maintaining extreme empathy for injured patients.

Detail-Oriented Execution: Precision in data entry is non-negotiable; accuracy is the primary metric for success in the EMR.

Career Path: This role is a gateway into healthcare operations and revenue cycle management within a rapidly growing medical management group.

Schedule and Commitment

Full-Time Status: This is a full-time position with a 32 to 36-hour work week.

Shift Structure: On-site Emergency Department shifts are 12 hours (10:00 AM – 10:00 PM). Network office shifts are 8 hours. Weekend availability is MANDATORY.

On-Site Commitment: On-site Emergency Department shifts will initially start at one 12-hour shift per week and will scale to multiple shifts as volume increases and team needs evolve (including maternity leave coverage).

Dynamic Allocation: Time spent between on-site patient engagement and office-based revenue cycle duties will shift as needed based on operational priorities. Candidates must be willing to work weekends and adapt to a shifting schedule.

Application Instructions: Qualified candidates must submit a resume highlighting specific experience with Epic EMR and Emergency Department workflows. Please include a brief cover letter detailing your experience with insurance verification or revenue cycle activities.
