Backend Full Stack Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Backend Full Stack Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Backend Full Stack Engineer, you need strong proficiency in server-side languages (such as Node.js, Python, or Java), database management, and a solid understanding of front-end technologies, usually supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with frameworks (like Express, Django, or Spring), version control systems (like Git), and cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure) is typically required. Effective problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help you collaborate across disciplines and deliver robust solutions. These skills ensure scalable, maintainable applications and seamless integration between backend and frontend systems, which are critical for organizational success.

How does a Backend Full Stack Engineer typically collaborate with frontend developers and other team members?

Backend Full Stack Engineers frequently work alongside frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver seamless user experiences. They are responsible for building and maintaining server-side logic and APIs, ensuring data flows efficiently between the backend and frontend. Effective communication is essential, as they must align backend functionality with frontend requirements and participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and troubleshooting sessions. This collaborative environment fosters learning and often provides opportunities to contribute across the tech stack, enhancing both technical and interpersonal skills.

What is a Backend Full Stack Engineer?

A Backend Full Stack Engineer is a software developer who specializes in building and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs of an application, while also having proficiency in front-end technologies. They are capable of working on both the backend and frontend parts of web applications, allowing them to develop end-to-end features and ensure seamless integration between the client and server sides. This role requires strong knowledge of programming languages such as JavaScript (Node.js), Python, or Java, as well as familiarity with databases, server architectures, and various web frameworks. Backend Full Stack Engineers often collaborate with designers, frontend developers, and other stakeholders to deliver complete and functional products.

What is the difference between Backend Full Stack Engineer vs Frontend Developer?

About Us
Small, publicly traded technology company seeking experienced engineers to join a growing team and drive key growth initiatives. You'll shape our new technical direction and deliver impactful solutions. This is a highly visible role with direct interaction with senior leadership, including the VP of Engineering, and an opportunity to influence architecture, product direction, and long-term technical strategy.
What We're Looking For
Adaptable, multifaceted engineers with a strong foundational background. We prioritize deep expertise in our core stack (C#, TypeScript, SQL, .NET, Azure, Angular) combined with strong problem-solving ability and versatility.
This role is ideal for someone who:
  • Enjoys operating in a hands-on, highly accountable environment
  • Can own problems end-to-end (architecture → development → delivery)
  • Is comfortable working in a lean team where engineers wear multiple hats
  • Can contribute to technical direction while still executing at a high level

What We Offer
  • Extensive creative freedom
  • Opportunity to directly influence and participate in company growth
  • High visibility with leadership and ability to impact technical direction
  • Competitive compensation based on experience

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
  • 3-5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with strong hands-on coding across front-end, back-end, and data layers (required)
  • Deep experience building applications using C#, .NET, TypeScript/JavaScript, and Angular (required)
  • Strong SQL experience (SQL Server preferred) with hands-on use of ORM frameworks such as Entity Framework (required)
  • Experience building and consuming APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) within distributed systems (required)
  • Proven ability to design and implement scalable, maintainable software architecture, with comfort contributing to and challenging technical decisions (required)
  • Strong understanding of the full SDLC (design → development → testing → deployment) in Agile environments (required)
  • Experience working in CI/CD environments using tools such as Azure DevOps/TFS and Git (required)
  • Hands-on experience with Azure (preferred) or other cloud platforms (AWS, etc.), including deployment and infrastructure considerations
  • Experience working across the stack in a lean environment, owning work end-to-end with minimal oversight (required)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams (required)
  • Experience working with additional technologies in the ecosystem (nice to have):
    • Redis, MongoDB
    • Linux environments
    • Networking protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS)
  • Exposure to hardware or device-level integrations, including basic understanding of ARM/x86 architectures (nice to have)
  • Mobile development exposure (nice to have):
    • Android (Java/Kotlin)
    • iOS (Swift/Objective-C)
    • Cross-platform frameworks such as React Native
  • Experience with additional languages such as Python, Java, or C++ (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with modern AI/LLM tooling, MCP, or agentic solutions (nice to have)
  • Strong communication skills; comfortable discussing design decisions and tradeoffs with senior leadership, including VP-level stakeholders (required)

Compensation depends on experience but is typically $90-130K plus bonus
