Client is implementing and building out Pega capabilities across multiple lines of business (personal, commercial, specialty lines) utilizing a React front-end framework and a Java back-end.

Job Description

Our Information Technology department is seeking a Senior Application Engineer with Pega experience to join our growing team.

Position Overview: The successful candidate will support projects focused on Pega Constellation implementations. Provide technology-enabled solutions to address complex business problems. Will apply PEGA technical knowledge, capabilities, and development skills to design and build efficient PEGA solutions to enable business strategies. Work closely with other information technologists to produce high-quality, IT-enabled applications, products, and services. Responsible for the overall technical implementation of applications, and frequently interact with internal and external partners, onshore and offshore staff.

In This Role, You May:

  • Interpret simple to complex technical designs and create the technical specifications or oversee the creation of the technical specifications.
  • Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, enhance, and document components.
  • Assist Project Manager in project coordination.
  • Provide technical direction for the development team.
  • Create and coordinate the developer tasks and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Manage technical risks throughout the project.
  • Communicate and enforce coding standards.
  • Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers.
  • Manage technical resources within budget and project schedule.
  • Work with technical leadership to perform evaluations and feasibility reviews of creative concepts and technology solutions.
  • Proactively work with resource managers to ensure that appropriate staffing resources are assigned, put in place, and effectively utilized at the appropriate time.
  • Work closely with quality assurance resources to create test plans and ensure that issues are properly assigned, fixed, and regressed.
  • Define and disseminate technology best practices.
  • Seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
  • Keep project managers well informed of the status of development efforts.
  • Easily recognize system deficiencies and implement effective solutions.
  • Promote code and support setup of multiple test environments.
  • Drive collaboration between project team members, including external and offshore resources, during the development process.
  • Contribute to technical approach and design.
  • Stay current and build in-depth knowledge of at least one or more programming languages, systems applications, and related development tools.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to individuals and projects.
  • Troubleshoot problems across domains and integration points.
  • Drive process improvements efforts.
  • Coordinate, compose, and deliver training for Software delivery resources.
  • Foster and encourage an environment that practices calculated risk-taking.
  • Take ownership of self-development. Build knowledge of P&C concepts and application systems.
  • Take necessary measures to avoid centralization of knowledge.

What You Need to Apply:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience targeting web-based Java/J2EE applications and software development.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Technical Foundations: Strong understanding of Object-Oriented software development principles and methodologies.
  • Pega Expertise: Experience with Pega (Pega 24 preferred), Constellation, Constellation SDKs, and Custom Component development. Industry Certifications like Pega CLSA are a strong plus.
  • Front-End/Web: React, JavaScript, AngularJS, AJAX, JQuery, CSS3, and HTML5. UX experience/knowledge is a plus.
  • Back-End/Server: Java, Tomcat, JSON.
  • Methodologies/Tools: Agile methodologies, DevOps tools, source control management, build processes, and testing.
  • Delivery: Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full SDLC. Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and creatively solve complex problems.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Ability to effectively prioritize, lead, and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Flexible in working under changing and different work settings.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
