MATH INTERVENTIONIST

Position Classification: Certified Math Interventionist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 
The Math Interventionist provides targeted math instruction and support to students in grades K8 who are identified as performing below grade level in math. The interventionist collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to design and implement evidence-based reading interventions, monitor student progress, and promote numeracy achievement for all learners. 


Qualifications:  
To perform this job successfully, the Math Interventionist must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. This includes a high level of proficiency in written and oral communication skills. The position requires:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Education required; Master's degree in Math, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification: Valid teaching license; Math Specialist endorsement or certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, with demonstrated success in math instruction and intervention. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   

  • Strong knowledge of math assessments and data analysis.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adjust teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with current math programs and instructional technologies. 

 Working Conditions:      

  • 10-month position
  • Travel between schools required
  • Occasional evening Superintendent, Board of Education and/or Community presentations

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide small group and individualized math instruction aligned to students' specific needs.
  • Assess students using formal and informal measures to determine math levels, strengths, and areas of need.
  • Analyze data to identify students for intervention and monitor ongoing progress.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and adjust intervention plans.
  • Implement research-based strategies in problem solving, mathematical practices, fluency, use of manipulatives, and integration of extended response writing.
  • Support classroom instruction through modeling and co-teaching math strategies.
  • Participate in the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of student performance and progress.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for home support.
  • Attend professional development sessions to remain current in math instruction and intervention strategies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of schoolwide math initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum for Math and Science and/or Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
