Job Description:
Summary:
The Personal Trainer has the responsibility of developing, implementing and supervising specific exercise prescriptions for individuals with different fitness levels, medical concerns, and/or different age populations at The Wellness Center.
i. Knowledge: The Personal Trainer must have the utmost knowledge about exercise and other wellness topics. The Personal Trainer will have the ability to access an individual's lifestyle habits, medical history, fitness levels and goals before designing an exercise prescription for that individual.
ii. Program Design: The Personal Trainer designs programs to increase strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and overall health and improve quality of life for the general population. The Personal Trainer will demonstrate competency in exercise prescription for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
iii. Skills: The Personal Trainer must have excellent interpersonal skills, solid coaching and teaching skills, show initiative and demonstrate courtesy and respect toward others.
iv. Integration: The Personal Trainer must have the ability to work closely with other professionals, such as physicians and physical therapists in order to provide appropriate exercise prescription.
Requirements:
Must have a four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited school. A concentration in exercise science or health related field is strongly preferred.
Experience in exercise prescription and exercise testing are required.
Continuing education requirements for certification must be up-to-date.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must be certified and in good standing with one of the following certification bodies:
a. ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
b. NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
c. NATA (National Athletic Trainer's Association)Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date
CPR/AED Certification.
