Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Exercise Specialist manages the recovery of patients with cardiac and pulmonary conditions. Responsibilities include supervising exercise sessions, monitoring ECG, and evaluating patient vitals. They educate patients on lifestyle modifications, coordinate care with cardiologists, and provide immediate emergency life support when needed.
Core Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct initial evaluations and ongoing physical assessments, including measuring blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels before, during, and after exercise.
  • Cardiac Monitoring: Interpret ECG to monitor heart rhythms and watch for signs of exercise intolerance, arrhythmias, or ischemia.
  • Patient Education: Develop individualized recovery plans and educate patients/families on heart-healthy habits, medications, and diet.
  • Emergency Response: Prepare for and initiate ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and emergency care protocols if patients experience adverse cardiac events.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with a wider medical team, including exercise physiologists, dietitians, and cardiologists.
