Job description

The Exercise Physiologist analyzes a patient's medical history, conducts fitness and stress tests, measures vital signs, and develops individualized exercise prescriptions to improve the patient's overall health and aid in the recovery from various medical conditions according to the physicians' individualized prescription and Plan of Care.
JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conducts fitness evaluations and functional assessments to identify individual needs, limitations, and any potential risks exercise may pose
  • Assists in the orientation and intake of all new patients
  • Develops customized exercise programs based on prescribed goals, including cardiopulmonary training, strength training, flexibility exercises, and rehabilitation protocols
  • Administers breathing exercises, dyspnea management, therapeutic exercises, psychosocial
    assessment/management, work simplification strategies, and assistive technologies
  • Monitors progress through regular assessments, monitors heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation during exercise sessions
  • Identifies potential risks associated with exercise based on medical history and adjusts exercise plans accordingly
  • Provides patients with education on healthy lifestyle habits, nutrition, and exercise techniques to optimize therapy results
  • Performs cardiopulmonary exercise tests to evaluate cardiopulmonary functions and the presence of any limitations
  • Communicates assessments and updates on the patient's Plan of Care with members of the healthcare team and referring physicians
  • Documents accurate and complete clinical information in the patient's medical record
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with all applicable rules, regulations, and procedures for safety management and infection control
  • Schedules patient's appointments for diagnostic and respiratory care services

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field with
    a concentration in cardiopulmonary health Required
  • Master's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field with
    a concentration in cardiopulmonary health Preferred

Work Experience
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of applicable experience Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Licenses and Certifications
  • American College of Sports Medicine ("ACSM") certification as exercise physiologist Required
