Description

Westside Recreation Centre is a world‑class facility based on a lifestyle concept. Since 2000, we have been providing families with high quality and accessible recreation facilities, programs and services. A Fitness Consultant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, member interaction & monitoring the fitness floor. The Fitness Shift Leader has the same responsibilities as the Fitness Consultant and is also responsible for their productivity & supervision of the consultants while on shift. This is a dual role including one Fitness Shift Leader shift and four Fitness Consultant shifts.

The primary responsibilities for the Fitness Consultant role include but are not limited to:

  • Meet and greet members
  • Supervise and ensure proper use of all fitness equipment and area
  • Provide orientations to equipment suitable to members’ needs
  • Providing orientations to youth age 10-15
  • Provide current, safe and reliable Health & Wellness information to members
  • Conduct fitness assessments
  • Light cleaning and basic maintenance of fitness equipment
  • Respond to emergency and first aid situations
  • Knowledge of fitness classes/programs currently being offered
  • Assisting with set up/clean‑up of gymnasiums, multi‑purpose rooms and fitness studios

The additional responsibilities for the Fitness Shift Leader role include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in overseeing operations of the Fitness Department
  • Responsible for overseeing Fitness Consultant productivity
  • Responsible for day to day administrative tasks when supervisor is not on shift (ex. Coordinating break times)
  • Ensure Fitness Consultants are multi‑tasking when patrolling the Fitness Area (balancing weights, organizing equipment, interacting with members)
  • Delegate extra tasks to Fitness Consultants
  • Help initiate steps for staff coverage when someone calls in sick, etc.
  • Take lead role when member complaints or concerns arise
  • Take lead role during fire alarms and possible evacuations

Work Term:

  • Year‑Round Full‑Time Hourly Position Available (Sunday‑Thursday)
  • Mon/Thu 1-9pm, Tue/Wed 5:15-10:15pm (Fitness Consultant)

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Completed BKin (or equivalent degree) or Exercise Science Diploma/Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma
  • Must have current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency – CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid
  • At least 1‑year experience working in a fitness/recreation setting
  • At‑least 1‑year of supervisory experience in any industry
  • AFLCA (personal training or group exercise)/Can‑Fit Pro Certification (PTS or FIS) would be an asset
  • CPT or CSCS Certification would be an asset
