Job description

Position Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Department: 9010|NIRC Administration
Responsibilities:
The New Iberia Research Center (NIRC), a premier $75 million biomedical research facility, supports groundbreaking research aimed at solving human health and societal challenges using non-human primates. As a resource for the global biomedical community, the NIRC provides the infrastructure and expertise required for innovative basic and applied research. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist plays a critical role in supporting these efforts by processing, analyzing, and reporting diagnostic samples to ensure research integrity and compliance with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
-Perform diagnostic testing in disciplines such as hematology, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, flow cytometry, parasitology, and urinalysis.
-Process, analyze, and report diagnostic samples in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and applicable research regulations.
-Conduct calibration, preventative maintenance, and quality control for laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
-Manage and oversee the shipping of diagnostic samples, adhering to all regulatory and safety standards.
-Maintain accurate records of laboratory analyses and quality control activities.
-Perform analytical testing and processing in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and applicable regulations
-Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Auditor and other team members to uphold the highest standards of research integrity.
-Participate in laboratory audits, inspections, and reviews as required.
-Contribute to the development and implementation of new diagnostic methods and protocols.
-Train and mentor laboratory staff and provide guidance on best practices.
This position is integral to the mission of the NIRC, ensuring that its research activities are conducted with precision, quality, and adherence to the highest ethical standards.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
-A Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related field
-Louisiana State licensure (or eligibility) as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Preferred Qualifications:
-A.S.C.P. certified or equivalent
-Previous experience as a generalist in a biomedical research or clinical laboratory
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Etc.:
-Strong computer skills are a must, as are skills in managing, planning, and organizing multiple activities.
-Basic knowledge and understanding of regulations governing operation of a research laboratory or hospital laboratory
