Primary Purpose:
Directs all aspects of the district-wide Science instructional program including curriculum development, implementation, assessment, evaluation and professional development.
Qualifications:
Education/Training:
Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field
Master's Degree
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
Appraisal Training Certificate
Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of the fingerprinting check/background check
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide content program
Expertise in data analysis to improve student achievement
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate effectively with administrators and teachers
Experience with planning and implementing staff development
Deep knowledge of K-12 Science TEKS
Provide coaching and teaching leadership experience in Science classrooms

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Articulate the District and department philosophy and expectations for the science content area to district leadership, campus leadership, teachers, parents, and community members.
- Consult campus leadership and instructional staff to ensure a consistent and effective instructional program in Science is implemented while also meeting individual campus needs.
- Coordinate the evaluation and selection process for textbooks in accordance to state guidelines and district policies.
- Monitor the use, maintenance and replacement of equipment and materials including maintenance of inventory at the campus, department or district levels.
- Seek, accept, and respond to evaluative feedback from teachers, administrators, peers, supervisors, and other professionals.
- Direct the district in the development, implementation, professional development and evaluation of the Science curriculum including the creation and evaluation of all district created documents, score and sequence for each grade level K-12.
- Promote academic rigor and college-readiness for all students in the area of Science content.
- Work with identified campuses to create and implement improvement plans in the area of Science content.
- Model effective teaching practices that demonstrate best classroom instructional and management practices.
- Conduct walkthroughs and classroom visits to assess effectiveness and improvement in instruction in Science.
- Facilitate and support campus staff during PLC's to create and monitor improvement plans by using data to monitor and improve student achievement.
- Analyze district, campus, teacher and student assessment data to provide recommendations for improving student academic performance in the area of Science.
- Skillfully provide constructive feedback to science teachers to facilitate change in instructional practices.
- Set up a system to observe assigned teachers and provide constructive feedback and share successful instructional practices for improvement.
- Develop and implement systems to support elementary STEM teachers in integrating science instruction into weekly specials rotations, ensuring consistent, engaging, and standards-aligned learning experiences.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate records and other documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- React to change productively and perform other duties as assigned.
