Babysitting Weekends information

What are babysitting weekends?

Babysitting weekends refers to providing child care services specifically on Saturdays and Sundays, or during the weekend period. This typically involves supervising and engaging with children while their parents or guardians are away or otherwise occupied. Weekend babysitters may be responsible for activities such as preparing meals, assisting with homework, organizing playtime, and ensuring children's safety. The hours and duties can vary depending on the family's needs and the ages of the children. Many families seek babysitters for weekends due to work schedules, social events, or simply needing some personal time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend babysitter?

To thrive as a Weekend Babysitter, you need a solid understanding of child care basics, safety procedures, and age-appropriate activities, often supported by CPR/first aid certification. Familiarity with communication tools for updates and basic household management systems is also useful. Patience, reliability, and the ability to engage children creatively are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure children's safety, foster a positive environment, and build trust with families during weekend care.

What are some common challenges weekend babysitters face, and how can they be managed?

Weekend babysitters often encounter challenges such as managing children’s energy levels during longer shifts, adapting to different family routines, and handling multiple children with varying needs. To effectively manage these, it’s important to communicate clearly with parents about expectations, establish a flexible routine that includes engaging activities, and remain adaptable to sudden changes. Building rapport with children early on can also make transitions smoother and help maintain a positive environment throughout the weekend.

Babysitting Weekends typically involve short-term, occasional care during weekends, often with minimal credentials. Nannies provide ongoing, full-time or part-time childcare in a family’s home, usually requiring more experience or certifications. Both roles serve different needs but share a focus on child safety and engagement.

Job description

Location: Beverly Hills, CA, 90210

Children: 3-year-old & 4.5-month-old

Compensation: $42-$47/hr DOE

Schedule: 45 guaranteed hrs/week, with a flexible schedule based on the family's needs. The exact distribution of hours may vary from week to week depending on the children's schedules, family plans, and travel. See description for details.

Benefits:

Paid sick time, paid time off, paid major holidays, a healthcare stipend, a continuing education stipend, relocation assistance, and mileage reimbursement for on-the-job travel. The nanny will have a private bedroom and private bathroom located in a separate wing of the home.

Start Date: October 1st, 2026

Inside Their World:

A warm, involved family in Beverly Hills is seeking an exceptional  Live-In Nanny/Family Assistant to care for their 3-year-old son and 4.5-month-old daughter while providing thoughtful support around the home.

Their 3-year-old son is sweet and bright with a fun and energetic personality. He loves trucks, soccer, swimming, being outdoors, and staying active. He attends preschool several mornings each week and thrives with someone who is playful and engaging while also providing consistency, structure, and clear boundaries.

Their 4.5-month-old daughter is a cheerful, easygoing, and determined baby. She is bottle-fed, sleeps through the night, and enjoys tummy time and interacting with those around her. She has a milk protein allergy and a sensitive stomach, so attention to detail and confidence with infant feeding routines are important.

The family is looking for someone who is genuinely warm, loving, nurturing, fun, and affectionate with children. They want a nanny who will develop a deep and meaningful bond with their children—someone who truly loves being with them, gets down on the floor to play, gives affection freely, engages them in conversation and learning, and takes genuine pleasure in watching them grow.

Family Environment:

These are hands-on parents who value warmth, respect, manners, clear boundaries, and raising thoughtful and considerate children. Both parents are regularly home, including a parent who works from a home office.

They are looking for someone who enjoys working alongside involved parents and understands the natural rhythm of a private family home, someone confident enough to take complete ownership when needed, while having the emotional intelligence to read the room and know when to step back during family time.

Privacy, discretion, and confidentiality are extremely important. The ideal candidate understands the expectations and professional boundaries that come with working in a private household.

The family enjoys an active lifestyle filled with swimming, parks, the zoo, beach days, outdoor activities, and time with their two beloved dachshunds.

Travel is an important part of family life, with regular travel throughout California, Texas, Mexico, and Europe. They typically take three to four larger trips each year in addition to shorter getaways and are building a home in Mexico where they anticipate spending extended periods in the future.

The family currently resides in Beverly Hills and anticipates eventually making the Austin, Texas area their primary residence. They are looking for someone who views this as a long-term position and is genuinely excited about the possibility of relocating with the family when that transition occurs.

Who Thrives Here:

The ideal candidate is exceptionally warm, loving, nurturing, trustworthy, flexible, discreet, emotionally intelligent, organized, and highly self-directed.

A true “see a need, fill a need” mentality is essential. This person naturally anticipates rather than waits to be asked and enjoys making family life easier.

They will proactively arrange playdates, research activities and outings, keep the children socially and developmentally engaged, prepare for upcoming travel, maintain children's supplies and belongings, and notice the little things that help the household run smoothly.

The family wants someone who is engaged and present with the children rather than simply supervising them, someone who enjoys playing, being silly, getting outside, creating activities, reading, talking and singing with the baby, organizing adventures, and fostering the children's natural curiosity.

At the same time, the right person understands the importance of structure, consistency, manners, and boundaries and can reinforce these in a loving and positive way.

Flexibility and adaptability are essential. The ideal candidate is a team player who is comfortable with a schedule that may shift based on family plans, travel, the children's needs, and weekend coverage.

The family currently employs another nanny, so being collaborative and respectful within a household team is important. The candidate must also be completely comfortable independently managing both children.

Weekend timing is flexible based on family plans. Saturday evening coverage may shift or not be needed when the family isn't going out; weekend hours can be adjusted accordingly while staying within the 45-hour weekly schedule. Flexibility and adaptability are essential for this role, and the ideal candidate is comfortable with a schedule that is not identical every week. The family will communicate scheduling needs as far in advance as reasonably possible.

Daily Rhythm:

The nanny will take ownership of the children’s daily care and routines, providing warm, attentive, and developmentally appropriate care. Responsibilities include planning age-appropriate activities, outings, classes, and playdates; supporting developmental milestones, social development, and independence; and maintaining routines, boundaries, and expectations aligned with the parents’ approach. The nanny will safely transport the children to school, activities, appointments, and outings; prepare healthy meals and snacks; manage bottles and feeding routines; and provide sick care as needed. The nanny will also oversee children’s laundry and clothing, keep bedrooms, play areas, toys, and belongings organized, restock essentials, and prepare the children’s belongings for school, activities, outings, and travel.

This is a true Nanny/Family Assistant hybrid, with childcare always remaining the priority. During appropriate downtime or when childcare needs allow duties will also include: light household support, including family laundry, grocery shopping and basic meal preparation, packing and unpacking for family travel, and maintaining an organized and well-stocked home. Responsibilities will also include light care of the family’s two small dogs, coordinating household vendors and service appointments as needed, running occasional errands, and proactively anticipating household and family needs to help keep everything running smoothly.

This is not a housekeeping role. The family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being helpful, organized, and proactive and who can become a trusted right hand to the family.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of professional childcare experience
  • Recent hands-on experience with infants, toddlers & preschool-age children
  • Previous live-in experience strongly preferred
  • Previous nanny/family assistant experience strongly preferred
  • Comfortable relocating to Austin, TX in the next year or two
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Reliable and insured vehicle
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Comfortable swimming and caring for children in and near water
  • Clean driving record & ability to pass a background check
  • Pet friendly. The family has two small dogs
  • Seeking a long-term position
  • Confident home cook who can follow recipes, meal plan, and prepare healthy meals for both the children and family.
