Position Summary
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the design, administration, security, automation, and operational support of the organization's enterprise Windows server infrastructure, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, and hybrid cloud services. This position serves as the senior technical resource for Microsoft server technologies and provides technical leadership for infrastructure modernization, automation, and operational excellence.
This position will be onsite in Huntsville, Alabama
Essential Functions
  • Administer Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 environments while preparing for Windows Server 2025.
  • Design, administer, and troubleshoot Active Directory in complex multi-domain and multi-forest environments.
  • Manage DNS, DHCP, IPAM, DFS, File Services, Print Services, and Active Directory Certificate Services.
  • Administer Microsoft Entra ID hybrid identity, Azure AD Connect, Conditional Access, MFA, and PIM.
  • Manage Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Remote Desktop Services (RDS), Windows 11 Multi-Session, FSLogix, host pools, and image management.
  • Develop PowerShell automation, Azure Automation runbooks, and repeatable operational workflows.
  • Administer Hyper-V, Azure IaaS, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, and hybrid networking.
  • Implement enterprise security controls including Defender, LAPS, BitLocker, Credential Guard, Sentinel, and security baselines.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using Sysinternals, Event Viewer, PerfMon, ETW tracing, and packet analysis.
  • Develop documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Mentor junior administrators and provide technical leadership during projects and production incidents.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum seven years of enterprise Windows infrastructure administration.
  • Expert knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Virtual Desktop, Hyper-V, and PowerShell.
  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments and enterprise virtualization.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Linux administration (Ubuntu, RHEL, or CentOS).
  • Docker and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • Azure services including VNets, NSGs, Azure Monitor, Azure Policy, RBAC, Key Vault, and Infrastructure-as-Code (ARM, Bicep, or Terraform).
