Location: Philadelphia, PA Salary: $65.00 USD Hourly - $70.00 USD Hourly Description: Our client is currently seeking a Microsoft Purview Administrator
W2, contract to hire position
Mostly remote, but must be located in PA, NJ, or Delaware for occasional onsite meetings in Philadelphia.
We are seeking a highly experienced Microsoft Purview Administrator to design, implement, and operationalize an enterprise-wide data governance and data protection program leveraging Microsoft Purview. This role will be responsible for assessing the current environment, defining a strategic roadmap, and leading a coordinated rollout in partnership with external vendors (e.g., Epiq) and internal stakeholders across cybersecurity, legal, compliance, and IT.
This individual will serve as both a technical expert and project leader, ensuring successful adoption of Purview capabilities including data classification, data lifecycle management, DLP, insider risk, and compliance solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Strategy
  • Conduct a comprehensive current-state assessment of:
    • Existing data governance capabilities
    1. M365 / Azure data estate (SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Teams, endpoints)
    1. Current DLP, classification, and retention practices
  1. Identify gaps against regulatory and internal requirements (HIPAA, PHI handling, etc.)
  1. Develop a multi-phase Purview roadmap, including:
    • Prioritized initiatives
    1. Implementation sequencing
    1. Dependencies and risk considerations
  1. Align roadmap with enterprise cybersecurity and data governance strategy

Architecture & Implementation
  • Design and implement Microsoft Purview capabilities, including:
    • Data classification and sensitivity labeling
    1. Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies across M365 and endpoints
    1. Data lifecycle management (retention labels, policies)
    1. Insider Risk and eDiscovery capabilities
    1. Information Protection and compliance policies
  1. Establish integration patterns with:
    • M365 / Entra ID
    1. Endpoint and network data sources
    1. Security tooling (SIEM, SOAR, CASB, etc.)
  1. Define governance model, including:
    • Roles and responsibilities
    1. Policy lifecycle management
    1. Exception handling processes

Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary internal lead coordinating with Epiq and other third-party partners
  1. Drive joint implementation planning sessions, workshops, and deliverables
  1. Align internal stakeholders across:
    • Cybersecurity Engineering
    1. Legal / eDiscovery
    1. Compliance & GRC
    1. IT Infrastructure / Cloud teams
  1. Translate technical requirements into business-aligned outcomes

Program Execution & Rollout
  • Lead the end-to-end deployment program, including:
    • Pilot design and execution
    1. Phased rollout strategy across business units
  1. Establish success metrics and KPIs (adoption, coverage, risk reduction)
  1. Manage dependencies, risks, and issue remediation

Training, Communication & Adoption
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive rollout strategy, including:
    • Executive communications
    1. End-user awareness campaigns
    1. Targeted training by persona (legal, IT, end-users)
  1. Create operational runbooks and documentation
  1. Drive enterprise adoption and behavioral change related to data handling

Operationalization & Continuous Improvement
  • Transition Purview capabilities into steady-state operations
  1. Define and implement:
    • Monitoring and reporting dashboards
    1. Ongoing tuning of DLP/classification policies
  1. Establish continuous improvement processes aligned to evolving risks and regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years in cybersecurity, data governance, or enterprise IT
  1. 3-5+ years hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview / M365 Compliance
  1. Proven experience leading enterprise-scale implementation programs
  1. Strong understanding of:
    • Data classification and DLP frameworks
    1. Regulatory requirements (HIPAA strongly preferred)
    1. M365 architecture (SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Teams)
  1. Experience working with external vendors/consulting partners
  1. Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare or regulated industries
  1. Familiarity with eDiscovery, legal hold, and records management
  1. Experience integrating Purview with:
    • SIEM / SOC operations
    1. Insider risk programs
  1. Certifications:
    • Microsoft SC-400 (Information Protection)
    1. Microsoft SC-900 / equivalent
