Job description

Position Summary
Ogletree Deakins has an opportunity for an experienced Sr. Azure Cloud Architect & Administrator to join the firm's expanding Azure Cloud services and AI services. The Sr. Azure Cloud Architect & Administrator will lead the design, implementation, and administration of Microsoft Azure cloud environments. This role combines architectural strategy with hands-on cloud operations, playing a pivotal role at Ogletree Deakins by aligning vision with planning, implementation, and operational management. This position will also be responsible for any technological duties associated with cloud computing, cloud network security, cloud storage, long-term archiving, design, planning, management, maintenance, and support. The candidate will also be involved with SolarWinds monitoring, Veeam backup configuration, and management.
Essential Functions
  • Design secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architecture using Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
  • Lead cloud expansion strategies, migration plans, and modernization efforts.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define solution requirements and translate business needs into technical architecture.
  • Evaluate and recommend Azure services and third-party tools to meet business objectives.
  • Develop architecture documentation, diagrams, and technical design specs.
  • Guide governance, cost optimization, and performance tuning strategies.
  • Responsible for overall Azure System Architecture and Azure Governance.
  • Implement Azure security policies, IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, storage blobs, and Azure files. Design, test, and implement Azure Site Recovery.
  • Responsible for all subscription and tenant management within the Azure cloud.
  • Analyze stakeholder requirements and convert them into secure cloud solutions. Architects must create and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Collaborates with peer organizations and senior leadership on creating the visionary direction and roadmap for Infrastructure-as-a-Service and gains adoption throughout the enterprise.
  • Responsible for overall design, installation, monitoring, testing, configuration, migration, maintenance, backup, and recovery of all Microsoft Windows-based servers and server applications (on-premises).
  • Writes PowerShell programming/scripting.
  • Proactively monitors and reports performance and utilization of assigned technologies.
  • Ensures that the technologies are updated with current, stable, and compliant architecture and patch levels that meet enterprise standards.
  • Research, design, implement, and test new technology solutions.
  • Assists with troubleshooting related to cloud resources/services
  • Perform periodic DR test, create and maintain systems and disaster recovery documentation.
  • Manages problem or escalated tickets and tasks, and out-of-cycle requests from systems/software owners.
  • Ensures execution and alignment to architectural standards and blueprints.
  • Performs on-call activities as needed for the environment and technologies

Administration & Operations (Hands-On Focus):
  • Manage and maintain Azure infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, and identity services.
  • Configure and monitor backup, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions.
  • Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or ARM/Bicep templates.
  • Manage Azure Active Directory (AAD), role-based access control (RBAC), and conditional access policies.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Sentinel.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and apply Azure Policies and Blueprints.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related incidents and performance issues.

Requirements
  • 7+ years of IT experience, including 3-5 years in Azure best practices, multi-subscription architecture, and administration.
  • Proven experience designing and operating production workloads in Azure at enterprise scale.
  • Deep knowledge of Azure services (IaaS, PaaS, Networking, AAD, Security).
  • Proficient in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep, ARM templates).
  • Strong understanding of networking (VNets, NSGs, ExpressRoute), identity, and security in Azure.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Experience in cloud advisory, cost management, and optimization.

Certifications (Preferred):
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (a plus)

Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills-able to explain complex solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to lead initiatives independently while also working collaboratively in a team.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic environments with changing priorities.
