Job description

The Director, Data & Engineering is accountable for the strategy, delivery, and operational health of Bison Transport's data and integration engineering capabilities. This role leads a blended team of staff and partner developers responsible for data streams, integration technology, event-driven solutions, and the enterprise data platform-enabling reliable, scalable, and governed data flow across the organization.

Working in close partnership with Product Teams, Application Engineering, Infrastructure & Operations, and Systems Architecture, the Director ensures that data and integration capabilities are tightly aligned to roadmap priorities, platform standards, and business outcomes. The role bridges technical depth and strategic leadership-translating enterprise dataobjectivesinto executable programs whilemaintainingrigor around engineering quality, security, and operational resilience.

This leaderis responsible forbuilding a high-performing engineering culture, managing delivery across staff and partner resources, and ensuring Bison's data and integration investments deliver measurable, lasting value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the strategy and roadmap for enterprise data, integration, and event-driven platforms.
  • Lead the delivery, performance, and continuous evolution of Bison's data lake, APIs, data pipelines, and integration technologies.
  • Partner with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to prioritize initiatives and align technology investments with business goals.
  • Oversee platform governance, security, scalability, reliability, and compliance across all data and integration solutions.
  • Drive engineering excellence through modern development practices, including CI/CD, automation, testing, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Manage release readiness, deployment processes, and collaboration with Infrastructure & Operations to ensure stable production delivery.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of internal engineers and external partners, fostering accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish standards for data architecture, API management, event-driven solutions, and enterprise data governance.
  • Manage vendor relationships, resource planning, and delivery priorities while balancing new initiatives, technical debt, and operational needs.
  • Define and monitor key performance metrics to improve platform health, data quality, operational resilience, and delivery effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, integration architecture, or platform engineering.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams.
  • Strong experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake preferred), APIs, data pipelines, and event-driven architectures.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, data governance, and security best practices.
  • Transportation, logistics, or supply chain industry experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead blended teams of staff and vendor/partner developers in a delivery-focused environment.
  • Strong capacity for cross-functional collaboration with product, architecture, and application engineering peers.
