What are some common challenges Azure Developers face when working on contract projects, and how can they be addressed?

Azure Developers on contract often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to a client's existing cloud infrastructure, integrating with legacy systems, and managing security requirements. To address these, it's important to familiarize yourself with the client's architecture early on, maintain clear communication with in-house teams, and stay updated on Azure's best practices and compliance standards. Proactively asking questions and leveraging Microsoft's extensive documentation can also help ensure a smooth onboarding and project execution.

What are Azure Developer Contracts?

Azure Developer Contracts are temporary or project-based roles where developers are hired to design, implement, and maintain solutions using Microsoft Azure cloud services. Contractors typically work on specific cloud projects, migrations, or integrations and may be engaged by companies seeking specialized expertise without a long-term commitment. These roles often require strong knowledge of Azure services, programming languages such as C# or Python, and experience with cloud architecture and DevOps practices.

Job description

Company Description

We are a boutique IT recruiting agency that strictly works with IT consulting companies and managed services providers.  We place candidates on a permanent, full time basis (no contract or contract-to-hire positions).

Job Description

MSP Project Engineer — Contract

Location: New York City
Contract Length: 3–4 months
Compensation: $60–$75/hour

We’re working with a well-established Managed Services Provider looking for an experienced MSP Project Engineer to support client-facing infrastructure, cloud, migration and systems projects across a fast-paced New York City environment. This is a great fit for someone who can step into messy, real-world client environments, assess what needs to be done and drive projects forward without needing a lot of hand-holding.

The ideal candidate has strong MSP experience, excellent client communication skills and the technical depth to handle a mix of Microsoft 365, Azure, networking, server, security and endpoint-related project work.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll support and execute technical projects for SMB and mid-market clients, including Microsoft 365 migrations, Azure/Entra ID work, server upgrades, network refreshes, security improvements, endpoint deployments and general infrastructure modernization.

You’ll work closely with internal technical teams, account managers and client stakeholders to scope work, document environments, troubleshoot issues and make sure projects are completed cleanly and professionally.

What We’re Looking For

Strong candidates will have hands-on experience in an MSP or IT consulting environment and be comfortable working across multiple client networks and technology stacks.

Ideal background includes:

  • Microsoft 365 administration and migration experience
  • Azure / Entra ID experience
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy
  • Networking fundamentals: firewalls, switches, VLANs, VPNs and wireless
  • Experience with backup, security, endpoint management and remote monitoring tools
  • Ability to document work clearly and communicate well with clients
  • Comfort owning project tasks from discovery through completion

Nice to Have

  • ConnectWise, Autotask, Datto, Kaseya, NinjaOne or similar MSP tool experience
  • Intune / Endpoint Manager experience
  • SharePoint / OneDrive migration experience
  • Firewall experience with SonicWall, Fortinet, Meraki, Sophos or similar
  • Prior experience working onsite with NYC-area clients

Why This Role

This is a strong short-term contract for an MSP engineer who likes project work, variety and the chance to make an immediate impact. You’ll be working on real client environments, solving real infrastructure problems and helping push important projects across the finish line.

Contract: 3–4 months
Pay: $60–$75/hour
Location: New York City
Schedule: Standard business hours, with some flexibility depending on project needs.

Qualifications

MSP Experience Necessary.
