Job Title: SQL Server Database Administrator / Azure DBA
Location: 2 Broadway, New York, NY
Job Type: Contract - 12 Months
Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week and 2 days remote
Schedule: Monday-Friday, normal business hours
Pay Rate: $60-$70 per hour
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator / Azure DBA to support the design, implementation, maintenance, performance, security, and optimization of enterprise database environments.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Windows Server, database performance tuning, high availability, backup/recovery, and database migrations. The DBA will work closely with infrastructure, application development, networking, and other IT teams to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing database operations.
This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days onsite at 2 Broadway, New York, NY, or onsite as needed. Candidates must be able to work onsite; 100% remote work is not available.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance databases.
  • Perform SQL Server database installations, upgrades, migrations, configurations, and maintenance.
  • Support Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage, and Azure security configurations.
  • Implement and maintain High Availability solutions, including SQL Server Always On.
  • Monitor database performance and perform SQL query tuning and optimization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database, connectivity, performance, and configuration issues.
  • Develop and maintain database backup, recovery, and restore strategies.
  • Develop backup schedules and perform verification and recovery testing.
  • Work with infrastructure teams on regular server/database patching and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to support database requirements and application deployments.
  • Support database security, access controls, compliance, and related security standards.
  • Perform database migrations and data movement activities.
  • Develop and maintain database procedures, standards, best practices, and technical documentation.
  • Use scripting and automation to streamline database administration and recurring tasks.
  • Analyze database infrastructure requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
  • Participate in evaluating new database technologies and provide recommendations for future database environments.
  • Design, engineer, and document database solutions and technical standards.
  • Work with system administrators, network administrators, application teams, and other technical resources to troubleshoot infrastructure issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to less-experienced database staff.
  • Maintain accurate system documentation, configuration records, and IT asset information.
  • Perform other database administration and infrastructure duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of hands-on SQL Server Database Administration experience.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server and SQL Server administration.
  • Experience with SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and migrations.
  • Experience implementing and supporting SQL Server Always On / High Availability.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and T-SQL.
  • Experience with database performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and query tuning.
  • Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Experience with Azure Storage accounts and Azure security fundamentals.
  • Experience with database security, permissions, and access management.
  • Experience with database automation and scripting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with infrastructure and application teams.
  • Ability to provide technical direction and guidance to junior staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
