Azure Cloud and Security Engineer

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)
Position Type: Staff Augmentation (Contract)
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week (Day Shift)
Contract Duration: April 27, 2026 – July 31, 2026
Pay Type: Hourly


Position Overview

The Arizona Corporation Commission (AZCC) is seeking a highly skilled Azure Cloud and Security Engineer to design, implement, and secure cloud-based infrastructure and applications within Microsoft Azure. This role supports enterprise IT development, cybersecurity, and compliance initiatives by managing cloud environments, enforcing security controls, and producing high‑quality technical documentation.

The engineer will be responsible for proactive and reactive security measures to ensure system availability, integrity, and reliability, while supporting Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) programs.

Hybrid Schedule: Initially 3 days onsite per week, transitioning to 2 days onsite per week.


Key ResponsibilitiesCloud Architecture & Engineering
  • Design and deploy scalable, secure, and cost‑effective Azure cloud solutions
  • Implement and manage Azure compute, networking, storage, and identity services
  • Monitor and optimize performance, availability, and cost utilization
Security Engineering
  • Implement Zero Trust and defense‑in‑depth security architectures
  • Configure and monitor Azure security baselines and threat detection tooling
  • Perform vulnerability analysis, remediation, and security hardening
  • Enforce compliance with regulatory and security frameworks
Infrastructure as Code & Automation
  • Build and maintain Azure environments using IaC tools such as Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform
  • Automate deployments, configuration, and operations using PowerShell, Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions
Monitoring, DR & Operations
  • Implement monitoring and logging using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Microsoft Sentinel
  • Provide Tier‑3 support for cloud and security incidents
  • Support Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity testing and readiness
Documentation & Collaboration
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, and flowcharts
  • Create architecture and process diagrams using Visio or Lucidchart
  • Collaborate with developers, compliance teams, and IT operations staff
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud engineering roles
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (Required)
  • Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting
  • Proven experience designing and supporting production Azure environments

Preferred Skills & Certifications
  • Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert or SC‑200 / SC‑300
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification
  • Experience working with Security SIEM tools (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel or comparable solutions)

  • Local candidates only – must reside in Arizona at time of submission
