What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Azure Cloud Network Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Azure Cloud Network Engineer, you need expertise in cloud networking, Azure platform services, and network security, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field and certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate. Familiarity with tools such as Azure Portal, Azure CLI, PowerShell, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) systems like ARM templates or Terraform is essential. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills set candidates apart in troubleshooting and working with cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for designing secure, scalable, and reliable cloud network solutions aligned with business needs.

How does an Azure Cloud Network Engineer typically collaborate with other IT teams within an organization?

Azure Cloud Network Engineers frequently work alongside security, DevOps, and application development teams to design, implement, and maintain secure, efficient cloud networks. They ensure that network configurations align with security policies, support continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and facilitate seamless communication between cloud and on-premises resources. Regular collaboration includes participating in planning meetings, troubleshooting cross-team issues, and providing network expertise for new cloud projects or migrations. This collaborative environment fosters both technical growth and a broader understanding of cloud infrastructure as a whole.

What does an Azure Cloud Network Engineer do?

An Azure Cloud Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing networking solutions within Microsoft Azure environments. They ensure secure, scalable, and reliable connectivity for cloud resources, including virtual networks, VPNs, and hybrid connections. Their role also involves monitoring network performance, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing network configurations to meet organizational needs. Additionally, they work closely with other IT teams to integrate Azure networking with on-premises infrastructure and maintain compliance with security standards.

What is the difference between Azure Cloud Network Engineer vs Azure Network Administrator?

Job description

At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, we are a mission-driven organization dedicated to championing the health and well-being of our members and the communities we serve.

Our team is the power behind that promise. And, as the industry rapidly evolves and we seek ways to optimize business processes and customer experiences, there's no greater time for forward-thinking professionals like you to join us in delivering on it! As a member of Team Blue, you'll find purpose, opportunities and the support you need to build a meaningful career and make a powerful impact in our community.

At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE), the network is the backbone of healthcare for hundreds of thousands of Nebraskans. We don't just talk about innovation - we live it every single day. Our engineers use GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, and custom-built AI agents for engineering, incident response, and operational decision-making. We maintain an active AI Community of Practice (AI CoP) that drives continuous experimentation and adoption across the technology organization.
As our Cloud Network Engineer, you will own the design and operation of a modern hybrid and multi-cloud network environment - working hands-on with Azure Virtual WAN, Palo Alto Next-Generation Firewalls, BGP routing, and Infrastructure as Code. If you want to build networks that directly improve lives and do it with cutting-edge tools, this is your role.
