Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Cosmos DBA to join our team on a contract basis. This individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing Azure Cosmos DB solutions to ensure performance, scalability, availability, and security. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in NoSQL database architectures, cloud-native design, and enterprise-scale data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement scalable, high-performance solutions using Azure Cosmos DB (SQL API, MongoDB API, Cassandra API as required).
  • Optimize data modeling, partitioning, indexing, and throughput provisioning strategies.
  • Monitor and manage Cosmos DB performance, availability, capacity, and security.
  • Collaborate with application developers, data engineers, and infrastructure teams to integrate Cosmos DB into broader enterprise solutions.
  • Design and implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to security and compliance requirements for cloud data solutions.
  • Tune and troubleshoot Cosmos DB queries, latency issues, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for Cosmos DB best practices, schema evolution, and API selection.
  • Document architecture decisions, operational procedures, and data access strategies.
  • Support migrations from legacy databases to Azure Cosmos DB.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Overall IT Experience: 10+ Years.
  • 8+ years of experience in database administration or architecture.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience specifically with Azure Cosmos DB in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of Cosmos DB APIs (SQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Gremlin).
  • Deep knowledge of partitioning, consistency models, throughput (RU/s), indexing, and replication.
  • Experience with Azure-native services (Azure Functions, Event Hubs, Logic Apps, Azure Monitor, etc.).
  • Proficiency in NoSQL data modeling and distributed system design.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for database code deployments.
  • Proficiency in scripting with PowerShell, Python, or ARM/Bicep templates.
  • Experience with security, access control, and encryption in Azure.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, monitoring, and logging tools within Azure.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work onsite with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
  • Experience with hybrid environments and integration with other database platforms (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
